Sick and tired of intro screens.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Sick and tired of intro screens.

Post by kinn »

Anyone else here sick and tired of all those intro splash screens when you first load up a game?

I'm ok with the developer and publisher splash screen but often you get other screens which show copyright info or which technology was used i.e. like renderware, rad tools, CRI etc. which you have to sit through everytime you boot the game up.

The worst thing of all is that often you cannot even push a button to skip them! Ok so some maybe loading some data or something while showing these screens but what?

Is it just me being grumpy or does anyone else have issue with this?

I feel your pain.
Hate most of them as well.
But...There's some worth your time.

Check Shadow of The Colossus (PS2) intro for instance.
Pretty impressive.

It might not be the game developers fault, they may have contractual reasons like "you must display this logo during start up of this game" like the 100s of games that have the soft-mpeg logo.

But in my opinion I hate the fact companies are ramping up for in game ads. That is far worse than those splash screens.

Thats what I love about PC games. Quite a few of them just instantly get to the main menus, like most of Valve and Epic's stuff. For the games that don't, you can usually replace those business logos with null files and the game will just instantly shoot to the main menu from then on.

Fair enough if its a contractual thing but surely they dont imply how long they stay onscreen? I mean why can't we skip them when you hit the start button?

some companies have a policy of having their logo x time on screen at startup

Thats just the Publishers/Developers right?

I think Nintendo has this policy right?

I hate that on Crackdown since you can't skip it. This is a pretty big problem...I mean on the older consoles, usually they just had a skipable intro and then the main menu. Tis a shame. But what I hate the most is when you have to load to get to a menu, like on the Saturn and stuff. So STUPID!

Very annoying.

I hate on older (and even newer) console and PC games where you have to wait forever for the game to load so that you can then watch the intro screens and movies. And then the game has to load AGAIN to get you to the menu, because it wasted all the initial memory space loading logos! Bastards...
