Shenmue II PAL version for Dreamcast. $80 for a used copy? Are people actually buying this to play 5+ years later or just collect?

I've been out of the collecting video games scene for sometime. I randomly pick up a title here and there (I own over 1000 games, still have yet to play all of them).
I do know when I was collecting some games surprised the piss out of me as I watched their prices rise.
Lunar - lost my original as a kid... purchased another while in high school around 99 or 00' for like 10 bucks. it wasn't but like a year later I saw the thing rocket almost 4 times in price.
Same with Shining Force CD
Bangai-O - I must say I love Treasure and almost all their games. I got this title brand new for 5 bucks when it was still on store shelves. Again, it rocketed in price. Today it has come back down. But for a period there it was fetching a hefty penny.
Final Fantasy 1 - What the fuck is with this title? This and the first Dragon Warrior. I remember EVERY GameStop in the nation would have a copy of each for like 45 bucks behind the counter. EXCUSE ME!?

The Saturn SFA2G sound quality was awful compared to PSX. Great collection though.gradualmeltdown wrote:Street Fighter Collection : Sega Saturn NTSC USA
This game hasSUper SF2 (yuck) Super SF2 Turbo (Meh) and Street Fighter Alpha2 Gold. Comparable or better versions of these games are available for around $20 a piece or less on many consoles. I see this one go for more that $100 all the time because it is "rare" Street Fighter Collection 2 kicks all ass, and can be had on PS for around $30.
IMO Radiant Silvergun on Saturn is overpriced. Its an above average shooter. I gotta say I bought it just to ensure my level of Otaku eliteness.

This may or may not be relevant.
I collect NES carts. I have a particular interest in the 33 "black box" first-party games. I'm trying to collect complete versions of each. I have a few, but many are overprice IMO. Especially copies of arcade conversions like Donkey Kong, Mario Bros and Popeye. They can sell for $50 or $60 on eBay CIB, though as always you can get them cheaper with the right luck and timing.
Some others I think are overpriced are the Tengen version of Tetris (upwards of $45 and $50 with the box) and Bubble Bobble (upwards of $25 or $30 without the box and much more with). Neither game is that special or even that rare. I guess those don't compare to Radiant Silvergun or anything, but I feel they are overpriced.
And I agree about SOTN and FF7 -- these were million-selling games!!! Lots of copies in print.

Seems like many 16-bit games are a bit too pricey these days, especially S-NES ones. I got a copy of Contra Hard Corps complete for fifteen buck(shipping included), but it took me a little while for me to find one at that price. I've seen it go from 20 to 30 to 40 to even 60 dollars. That's insane for a relatively common Genesis game.
I rolled my eyes a bit that the person I bought it from had it listed as rare, but the price was reasonable so I was happy.
Great game by the way, better than Contra III in my opinion and not as hard as people say even without the life bar that was present in the Japanese version. Contra shouldn't have life bars!

I picked up Twin Snakes a few weeks back for $AUD70($USD60) which is a good price consiering that about 2 copies were sent down to Australia.Ender wrote:There are some Cube games overrated due to the fact that they made so few.
Good examples are
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes (yes...)
Ikaruga
Skies of Arcadia
I noticed that you made a little mistake though; ALL Cube games are expensive. At least down in Australia anyways. I still see old GCN games at full price in EB. GC games have always been full price and a total rip off. I think I managed to pick up my whole PS2 collection for the same price as 3 GCN games.
