RacketCon 2010
Re: RacketCon 2010
What I'm saying is combine the two ideas. I like the idea of having regional meetups at first as opposed to a full blown convention as it'll take much less time and resources. I think you should host the inaugural one at a hotel or something and we'll see how it goes from there. Call around, get some prices, check interest here (ie. How many people are coming) and set a door price accordingly to help recoup expenses. Or set up a paypal acct or something. Assuming it goes well or there's enough interest, then we can keep going with this and have one in chicago, new england, denver, texas, the west coast, seattle, wherever. Promote on other forums and inform the gaming blogs and try to get some folks to come out. I think this would be a good idea, to have three or four a year at different times and in different locales.
I also like the idea of having it around another major convention, like the animecon or whatever. Indianapolis hosts gencon every year so i'd be happy to try and organize something for us next year.
So word up. That's what I meant about the ball being in your court.
I typed this out on my phone and my hands hurt (a victory for lordofduct, I'm sure). I also typed "leopards" instead of "people" at least twice and contemplated just rolling with it, but decided against it.
See how many leopards you can get to come out!

Re: RacketCon 2010
If you guys want to buy some games, ive got a friend in raleigh who sells on ebay, i can probably convince him to come to the NC con to sell some of his stock. He was interested in doing that coming up at the next Animazement, im sure he could help out if we get a con going in NC.
Like i said, im in this unless something comes up (because thats life, prepare for the unprepared) but a thread about the con would be a wise desision.
I do happen to like a regional meetup/mini con, or we can start off that way first, then after doing that for a while, we could do one big meetup/con.

Re: RacketCon 2010
What I had brainstormed for the first official meetup was at Animazement 2010. Not only does Majors put on a good show, it is a fairly sizable city (meaning you can get a decent priced ticket there), the show is already established, attended by several of our members (Majors, ModMan, myself), and Madgear will be on site. Yes an anime convention is not the most ideal meetup, but it would be a good place for a trial run.
I know that several are you are wondering why I would suggest it over Momocon. Well, we are not doing a Retroroom this year. Doc said it is too much lifting in a short span of time and we ran out of space this year (boardgaming EXPLODED last year and is only going to be bigger this year. And as much as I love teaching people about new games, my friend who runs CCGs for us needs the business more - he owns two comic book stores).
If yall decide that we need to hold it elsewhere that’s fine, I can still help advertise, plan, and hopefully execute it. I am just tied up with other events throughout the year (cons will be limited to eight (8) out of town/multiday). So yeah, this is partially me being selfish. But to be honest if we hold an event that is just us, it would easily be $30+ a head and be all over the place.
And Zeonik if your buddy wants to be a dealer at Animazement he needs to jump on it - dealer slots go fast.

Re: RacketCon 2010
Wait, MadGear is coming this year? YIPPY!!! I heard he wasnt there
last year due to having a kid, or from what some people in the dealers room
said. Ill let my friend know ASAP, he states he getting some people to help him, of
course i will as well.
Yea, im already paid up for Animazement 2010 for me and my bro, so im definetly coming to that. You could do a booth just for us to meet up at, or the people who are coming have them pay a portion of the booth and we can go from there. ModMan introduced me to Racketboy last Animazement, so it will be cool to run into him and the rest of you guys again.

Yeah...I don't think you'll find me at an anime convention, even if there is going to be a meetup there...

Re: RacketCon 2010
You could probably change the months up to help meet others plans, as November tends to be a rather hectic month for traveling due to Thanksgiving and the such. I may suggest summer?

Have cabs, will travel.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:I almost forgot to mention, we have to try getting Majors and the Wedoca crew to come down to RacketCon if they're up for it and we do it in a southeastern location.
I like the idea of regional meet-ups, like at someones house (MINE! MINE!). This can test the waters before your drop some serious coin. This would be more in the line of pizza and beer though I am know for my wiener dogs. The other idea, is to plan a meet-up at a con, like upcomming MAGFest! Some of the Wedoca crew and I will be there all weekend in front of our cabs unless we are outside smoking. Why don't we just say the unoffical RB meet for MAG is in the arcade area, near the candy (Japanese, sit-down style) cabs? I will have my large, red thermos all weekend long...hmmm, I wonder what could be inside?
I noticed a lot of AZ talk, I wonder how many folks on RB are returning to Animazement next year? I meet ModMan last year, did I miss some of you guys?
