All the pizza chains around here already have a $2usd delivery charged tacked on, and that doesn't include a "Ghetto Tax". No shit, most of the pizza delivery chains around Greenvile, NC have a Ghetto Tax of $3usd included in the bill because "black people don't tip". I'm serious.

There was always a $2 delivery charge added on to the bill, but we never saw that. That went to the company.

Delivery charges are ass. People don't want to tip for delivery if the delivery cost is included in their bill.

I haven't heard of the Ghetto tax, but the whole black people don't tip was an extremely common occurrence at my university. I went to Morgan State University, a HBCU (Historically Black College/University) in Baltimore Maryland. Not once did any of my friends there tip. A few places didn't deliver to the school between a mix of going into "bad neighborhoods" and not getting tipped, it just wasn't worth it. Or at least if they did deliver it would only be to 1 or 2 of the dormitories, so you'd have to order it then go to that dorm to pick it up. And the students wondered why the food took 2 hours to arrive.

I've also always tried to tip well, at least for good service, and always something when its delivery. The same woman has been cutting my hair for the last 6 years and shes always done a good job. As I've gotten older I've tipped more. I will usually give her $20 for a $13 haircut. For me its not about a percentage or anything, but I would be willing to pay $20 for the haircut she gives so why not pay her more. When I'm at restaurants with friends we'll always round up. So if my meal is $8.50 I'll be putting in $10, and when it comes time to pay we are always over, even if tip is already included.

Its strange in Korea where there is no tipping in restaurants, but the lack of tips is probably built into wages. Also many of the restaurants I've been to haven't had waiters. Just small places run by a man and a woman who service everything. The whole sit down with a menu and order with a waiter is much more common in the foreigner districts (which usually also have like a 10% VAT instead of it being built ino the price).

Sounds like my type of restaurant.

I usually tip at least 20% as a rule, more depending on how good the service is. If I go out to a haute cuisine restaurant and I'm impressed with the food, I'll tip the chef or buy him a glass of wine. They usually prefer the wine.

And I love a good Sushi bar. If the Itamae is really on top of his game, I'll heavily tip him and offer a glass or two of sake. I've never had a Itamae turn down sake before.
