I have always loved this game, ever since I was a kid. I once watched my dad play through the SNES version three times in a row before finally losing all of his continues at the beginning of the fourth playthrough.

I used to love the boss fights, and would actually get nervous for my dad as he played through them. Scarface is actually one of my favorite boss characters of all time... the destructive face is just gnarly!

I play Smash TV on MAME with a PS2 controller by using the two analog sticks. Works perfectly!

Hi there All,

Just popped on after a looooooong hiatus (I joined, and was last on Jul 08 I think - for Marble Madness).

Smash TV is a classic - For me it represents one of my fave 90s games - as never got into the fighters - SFII, etc. I remember playing it in my local arcade when I was back in the UK (in NZ now) and really looking into reliving on MAME.

Can anyone recommend a ROM? I've heard talk of 'Pleasuredome' ROMs or something???

Speak soon, Andy

PS. GREAT news on podcast :) Not listened yet - but both downloaded :D :D :D

Smash TV encapsulated everything that WAS the arcade of the 1990's

The game was difficult, but not impossible, tons of collectible "cash prizes" that served no real purposes, but still compelled you to collect them in the face of sheer destruction. You had crazy bosses, branching paths and the two player co-op created even more chaos in this co-operative competitive game. I can only get to the second stage as of now, it's been a long time since I played the SNES version (since I can't for whatever reason get it to work on MAME properly with the controls) and am having a blast.

I just played through the SNES version with my dad this morning. It was a BLAST! He hasn't played in years, but it came back to him pretty quick. I actually used up more continues than he did.

The first stage was simple stuff, the second was intense, especially when they start throwing the orbs at us, and the third was a bit tough overall. The only boss that really tore us up was the giant twin snakes, but other than that we did pretty decent. We unlocked the turbo mode, but neither of us were really up for another play through.

I had so much fun with this game! I seriously can't stress it enough. The podcast interviews really made me want to play it again, and I'm glad to actually participate in TR this month!

The 1CC achievment for this on XBLA seems pretty much impossible. Has anyone ever managed it?
