PS3 region free also for PS2?
PS3 region free also for PS2?
Does the PS3's region feature also apply to PS2 games? I was thinking of importing some japanese PS2 games, like Fate Unlimited Codes, but I'm not sure if they'll play on a B/C PS3.

No for PS1 as well. Also no for DVDs.
PS3 games are region-free. Blu-ray movies are not region-free, but Japan and America are in the same region (unlike DVDs), so that changes things around a bit. Not sure about other regions.

Re: PS3 region free also for PS2?
Ahem, not true. It's up to the publisher what region the Bluray is. I've got lots of films from the US before they came out on bluray in the UK that are region free.Breetai wrote:Blu-ray movies are not region-free, but Japan and America are in the same region

It's estimated that 70% of all bluray movies are region free.

Then I should've said, "some Blu-Ray movies are region-free, some are not, but Japan and America are in the same region for those that are not region-free". Thanks for the correction. I learned something new!Niode wrote:Ahem, not true. It's up to the publisher what region the Bluray is. Re: PS3 region free also for PS2?
Glad I could help.
I love the fact that most Blu-rays are region free. It means half the time I can get the Bluray of a film around the same time that it's in the cinema over here.
Home cooking + 42" plasma + 7.1 surround sound > cinema + annoying cunts + noise + mobile phones. Any day of the week.
Plus it's cheaper. £15 for a bluray import is cheaper than cinema tickets for me and my fiancee plus popcorn and drinks. Plus I can pause it whenever I want.

Here its still around $3-4 but popcorn and drinks for one cost more than the ticket.Niode wrote:Plus it's cheaper. £15 for a bluray import is cheaper than cinema tickets for me and my fiancee plus popcorn and drinks. Plus I can pause it whenever I want.
Piracy is rampant, movies are $1-2 at any light stop but quality is usually cam or telesync . New movie DVDs around $20 and bluray maybe $30 not quite sure, so almost nobody buys originals, and usually DVD extras are cut or quality is like R5 releases.
