RacketCon 2010
Re: RacketCon 2010
Good point about the holiday weekend. My vote is for late July 2011 or MAYBE August 2010.

Once we set up a date and get more information it will be a lot easier to find out who can go.

Lets hold it in Denver or someplace in the center of the USA (like in the middle of Kansas
)
Older. Not wiser.
Re: RacketCon 2010
A decent hotel room in Raleigh will be way cheaper than a decent hotel room in other larger cities.
Same goes for the price of the conference room. I'm not looking to spend 2K on this trip, I doubt others are.
I like dsh's dates too. Like I said earlier, we need to have a group that is committed to going.
This can be an incredible chance to network, B/S/T, add sponsors to RacketBoy, etc.

I'm down with something on fourth of July weekend, and if it's near Raleigh or Charlotte then I'm all in.

Holy shit!
Raleigh?
I live mere HOURS away from there.
And just curious... will that be around the same time as the State Fair, cuz last time I went (8th grade, maybe 7th) I had a BLAST. I also ended up with this big-ass stuffed Pikachu (albeit without the tail) with the help of the rest of the kids in my group. And we went on rides and played carnival games. We also went to a few museums and stuff. Ties with the only other long-distance field trip I took, which was to Virginia in 5th grade to see a production of The Wizard of Oz and go to some museums, including Nautilus.
And can we do cosplay? And if so, is retro-gaming a requirement or just a suggestion (like going as an American comic book character at an anime convention)?
And any other gr8 convention goodies, like gaming, notable guests (industry and the like), and a marketplace?

Re: RacketCon 2010
I would like to add Atlanta to that list dsheinem. We have quiet a few members within hours/driving distance and at least 3 mods plus it has one of the most used airports and the most used for international flights if some of our overseas friends are joining.dsheinem wrote:Well I know both Spacebooger and myself teach, so any time during the school year is rough for us. I know that we certainly have plenty of members who are students, too...Seems like we have a good group of people who are in, but if we're going to do this, I suggest that we can get every mod to commit to a weekend/date.
My vote would be for 4th of July weekend - either 2010 or 2011. I think NC is a good place, but maybe we could have a vote? I'd suggest:
-Chicago
-Philly
-Charlotte (or Raleigh)
-Los Angeles
-Denver
-Dallas
Anyplace that gets lots of air travel and has cheap rates would probably be a good location. It might be fun to do a live podcast from the convention![]()
I'd be able to coordinate with fastbilly1 on most of the planning of panels, events, etc. as I have tons of conference experience (for academic conventions). I think summer 2011 actually makes sense so that we could plan it between now and this summer and then announce it a year in advance.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.
Re: RacketCon 2010
Atlanta makes more sense than Charlotte, to me. Luke's point about expensive hotel rooms is notable though. The question becomes - do you pay more for a flight and less for a hotel or more for a hotel and less for a flight? We'd probably want to do some polling on location stuff...pepharytheworm wrote: I would like to add Atlanta to that list dsheinem. Re: RacketCon 2010
Summer/ spring sounds better to me.
Also, might be cool to have some sort of trading post, and to have some stations hooked up for games most of us don't have the means to play. 10 player bomberman? 4 swords lan?
Also, atlanta can be a drive for me and alot of people, so I second that.
