Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
this is one of the few games i feel shouldn't be the price they put it as. just not enough of a game really. wind and water i think is a game everyone should buy over burn. a great game thats long and has a nice amount of content. great anti pirating message though.

The game is something like 23 USD. If you don't think it's worth the money, don't buy it and don't play it.

Right, I'd have to agree here. There are some publishers/developers that I'd gladly support if they come out with great niche stuff that doesn't get the support it deserves (think Atlus). However, the world isn't poorer for not having a Micro Machines clone.BigTinz wrote:
Wrong sir. Burning it just means you don't give a fuck about paying $35 for a micro machines clone.
Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
Then play Micro Machines and don't buy or burn Rush Rush Rally Racing. Burning a game rather than buying is just going to piss developers off and discourage them from making niche stuff that appeals to the "hardcore" who are a bit better at finding a way to get what they want for free than the average consumer. This isn't a case like Modern Warfare 2 or Spore where you're trying to discourage a practice you don't like. You're stealing a game you want to play because you don't want to pay for it and you're just making a dick out of yourself.dedalusdedalus wrote:Right, I'd have to agree here. They're charging what they think it's worth and not some preset retail price. If it's not worth it to anyone at that price and nobody buys it they'll lower the price. In my experience pirates look for any excuse to not buy a game. This is just yours.

Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
While I am against pirating a game like this, it would be nice if they'd at least make a freely available Rush Rush Rally Racing demo that can be downloaded for play on the Dreamcast.
Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
Of course it'd be nice, but I don't think I expect it from them. None of the independent Dreamcast releases I can think of have had a demo. I didn't get a demo before I bought Die Hard Arcade. I didn't get a demo before I bought Zack and Wiki. I don't remember a Street Fighter IV demo. I think it's pretty unfair to expect a demo of every game, especially from the little guys. From what I understand about it, making a demo is actually pretty time consuming and difficult. I can usually get a pretty good idea of whether or not I'll like a game based on a few reviews and gameplay videos. I pretty confident you're not a pirate, but I do think MANY pirates use a game not having a demo as that "any excuse" bit, as I mentioned before, to steal a game. That's why I get a little defensive about the demo excuse.the7k wrote:While I am against pirating a game like this, it would be nice if they'd at least make a freely available Rush Rush Rally Racing demo that can be downloaded for play on the Dreamcast.

Im not going to argue the point of pirating, but I have to disagrees with your point about demos.equalsign wrote:Of course it'd be nice, but I don't think I expect it from them. You mentioned many different games that you never had a demo for, but some of those were arcade ports so they kinda had demos - people could play them for a small price before dropping 20+ on the home version. Plus the big developers get more mainstream media coverage. The more media coverage and videos the less need for a demo.
So I do think that the little guys need demos, they need to get their name and product out there to the masses not just the select few on retro/Dreamcast fan sites. I preordered Pier Solar after playing the demo rom the had up for download. And I am now tempted to downloading and playing RRRR because with the copy protection it is technically a demo - if I like the game Ill drop the 20+ on it.
Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
Most people don't play at arcades anymore and most games don't make it to the arcades. My mentioning a couple arcade games was a sort of happy coincidence. Plus, I said that I'd don't expect it and don't think a developer's options should be "make a demo or I pirate it, YAR!" I didn't say that it wouldn't help with sales. However, I don't think the "masses" would buy a new Dreamcast game if they knew about it or that a demo would somehow change that.SpaceBooger wrote: Im not going to argue the point of pirating, but I have to disagrees with your point about demos.

Although I personally think most people have pretty much made their minds up on whether they're going to buy a game before they play a demo. Now that's most people and in my opinion, so everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the matter. In my experience, people usually play them to get a taste of a game they can't wait to play or to just pass the time. I know I've downloaded more demos for games I am never going to buy or am going to wait to buy more often than I have for games I'm going to buy or am thinking about buying. Enough of that though
/end rant
While you might actually buy the game if you like it, I don't think most people will. It's true that most of the people who steal this game probably won't play it long before getting bored, but I imagine a healthy amount will beat the game and say "Meh. That wasn't worth the 20 bucks." Correct me if I'm wrong, but you just have to endure that little message for a few seconds every time you want to play your burned copy of the game, right? I think most people would be willing to overlook that to avoid shelling out the 20 bucks.
I don't like giving pirates a sense of righteousness or a sense that they're morally "in the clear" with what they do, so at the end of the day I still think it's wrong to download a game just to check if you like it. If I go to an ice cream shop I appreciate getting free samples. But if they don't allow them, I don't think I'd have any right to just bust out my own spoon and scoop some out because "I never buy before I try."
And before some troll pops his head out from some dark pit in Hell to say "thas not a good example becuz the developers don't actually lose anything if I jus download it" try this - GO SCREW YOURSELF AND STOP TRYING TO NITPICK DETAILS TO IGNORE AND DISCREDIT MAIN POINTS.

Re: Rush Rally Racing has copy protection!?!!?
Hahahahahaha, no. Die Hard Arcade was a Saturn game, Zack & Wiki was a Wii game, and Street Fighter IV was an 360/PS3 game - none of which had demos, but that didn't stop equalsign from buying them.noiseredux wrote:equalsign wrote:Of course it'd be nice, but I don't think I expect it from them.
