PSP game servers shut down

After posting this topic, I went to play a few rounds of Rainbow Six Vegas (for the psp). Apparently, they have shut the server down due to user inactivity. How common is this? Is there a list of games servers that aren't up and running anymore? Why on earth would they support it in the first place if they just plan on dropping it? :x This sorta shit just pisses a person off. RSV was a damn fun multiplayer. Is there any way to setup a custom server for the psp?

My other question is, will Ad-hoc party fix these issues? Will it act as a server for the game that you and your friends are wanting to connect, or will the games you buy have to support ad-hoc party?

Also, is it up to Sony, or the developer as to weather or not the server gets pulled?

It happens dude, the PSP user base is way small, so i can see why they shut down the server to a game thats two years old already and probably only had no more than a couple hundred active players, its a waste of their money

now if Rainbow Six Vegas supports Ad-Hoc, then YES, i think ad-hoc party will act as a way for you and your friends on PSN to connect and still play together, but i dont know if it will have match making and rooms and such.

i wonder how many games for PSP are still online? i know forsure that Resistance is up.
i think twisted metal is , but im not sure.... anyone?

I bought Lemmings because you could download user created maps and extra maps. However I never got a chance to because by the time I bought my psp the servers were shut down.

That sucks!

It's strange to me that you can still play unreal tournament(1999) online but not psp games from 2007.

UT has dedicated servers run by third parties and other random people. PSP games use servers run by Sony (or maybe the devs, but it's only specific people). That is why there was that huge tiff about Modern Warfare 2 on the PC not supporting dedicated servers. Dedicated server support means that as long as people still like a game you will still be able to play it online.

And the UT99 community is nuts. I mean they have remade Onslaught (a UT2k4 gametype) and most of the maps from 2k4 and 3 in UT99.

I keep thinking that there HAS to be a way to create a server for it. Would contacting ubisoft/sony about their server specs/software do any good? The thought I have backing my idea is that I paid for the game, never had to pay to access the psp server to have a good time. Why wouldn't they send me the specs to setup my own server and keep it running at my own discretion? They aren't providing it, so why can't someone else?
