Hrm... I have two of those. One more white, like the picture, and one slightly darker, more brownish, both official Sega. And I bet they both need their batteries replaced. Interesting there's a battery in there.

Very interesting... I'm going to have to take a look at my cards when I get home. I think I'm out of batteries though (used the last one replacing my 3DO battery).

Dang it! Batteries in the memory cartidges?!

I know this has already been talked about, but in light of this battery thing will using an official memory cart ever month or so keep it alive, or will it eventually just crap out? I'd guess it'll just crap out eventually, but if anyone knows for certain it would be much appreciated.

The battery in that cart looked easy enough to change, but if anyone could verify this it'd be great. Thanks a ton!

Edit: Found this link

I have a white Saturn so I'd really rather get a gray cart, but it looks like buying a Japanese Saturn memory card just got a bit more complicated.

So I just opened up my US black Sega Saturn Memory card, and there are no batteries inside. It's a couple of chips and a capacitor, so it's using some kind of non-volitile memory.

Thanks for the quick confirmation :D ! I was hoping to hear that.

In that same thread I linked to BlackBeltJones said that his came in a pink box. While it was never confirmed whether it was real or fake, that would make it the HSS-0138 model if it was legit. Perhaps they switched to batteries later on to cut costs or something?

I just talked to the guy over at Consolegoods and he says he's never seen a battery in a Saturn memory card. I think he was able to check a couple of HSS-0111 models to be sure.

Weird huh? This battery one appears to be a rare animal, I cant remember if anyone else has confirmed to have the same one, maybe it's a fake after all?? I'm yet to find the box, but i definately have it somewhere, we're moving house in a month, so I'll bet it will turn up.

Someone told me once just to make sure the saturn gets powered up for a few hours every few weeks, or every month, so i've been doing that, only time will tell if it will crap out. When i first got it, it lasted for years and years before "forgetting" ..

Out of interest, anyone here selling a Saturn memory cartridge that uses flash memory?

Cheers.
