Pretty straightforward question:
Which publisher is your favorite DOS era point and click adventure publisher?
The contenders as I see them are probably:
Lucas Arts
Sierra
(and perhaps) Westwood
There are probably others, but please have at it.
I'll ring in with my vote for Sierra. I think I've already outed myself as a QFG fanboy here a time or two.

I have to agree. I'm a big fan of the parser, and there's just something wrong with a game that you can't die in. Having death as a possibility makes you more careful (save early and save often!) and adds a good opportunity for humor (sudden decompression sucks!).
Of course, there are many many fine LucasArts adventure games. Monkey island, DoTT, Loom, The Dig, to name a few. In fact, I can't think of a LucasArts or Sierra adventure game that I would recommend not playing.

Oh I most certainly agree. There is no denying that the Lucas Arts games are superb in their own right.Hatta wrote: Of course, there are many many fine LucasArts adventure games. By the way, how do you feel about the Police Quest series? I never got into it much but what I was exposed to seemed to retain much of the charm of the other "quest" series. Any thoughts?

Lucasarts - one title Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis. It is one of the finest crafted videogames to exist.
Dont get me wrong, I own a large chunk of the Serria collection and there are few bad ones in the bunch (BIG Kings Quest fan), but the last videogame news to actually make my jaw drop was Fate of Atlantis on the Wii.

Sierra was great and though I think I played through more of their games, I preferred the humor of Lucas Arts. Full Throttle being my favorite, followed by Day of the Tentacle. Fate of Atlantis and Sam and Max were great too. I never played The Dig, Loom, or Grim Fandango though.

I really liked Police Quest, despite not giving a shit about police culture. The ones by Jim Walls were really good. I did play the one by Darryl "Casual drug users should be taken out and shot" Gates. It wasn't terrible, but not compelling either.
If you liked Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry, and want something a little more serious you'll like PQI-III. PQIII is the best I think, it's really a dramatic story, but you should at least play PQI first for the back story.
Jim Walls also did another game after leaving Sierra. It was called Blue Force, or something equally uncreative. So-so game, but better than PQIV.
Police Quest SWAT was an interesting experiment. If you like FMV games it's worth a look, otherwise don't bother.
Edit: The Laura Bow games are also very good. Especially the 2nd one. Play it.

Police Quest Spoiler Alert!
My favorite moment in a Police Quest game (I can't remember which one) was when I was trying to figure out the patterns of a serial killer and I realized that if I connected the dots on a map of where his victims had been murdered, then the lines began to form a satanic pentagram. If I staked out the point of the pentagram where the killer hadn't murdered a victim yet, then I could catch him. I think that was probably my favorite adventure puzzle solution of all time. It was such a creative and creepy thing that it stuck with me all these years later.

The Dig is the most cinematic of all the Scumm titles. But that is what you get when you have Spielberg involved. I just wish they had made the film of it - rumor has it that it was going to explain more about the backstory.
To go alittle off topic, have any of yall play Vampyre Story? It is a point and click that came out two years ago and was going for a Maniac Mansion/Space Quest style of humor. Ive yet to pick it up, but did see it in a store a couple weeks ago.
