Smash TV (Arcade)

I had played ports of this for the NES and Game Gear and SSTV for the SNES and never really enjoyed them as much as I felt I should. Recently I FINALLY played the arcade version of this game with twin sticks (on a Gamecube pad) and NOW I see what I have been missing all these years! Fantastic game - I used a ton of continues but had a lot of fun anyway. I liked that your high score didn't reset even when you had to continue - it gives the game even more replayability.

Yes, I know I am a little bit ahead of the upcoming TR for this game, but I have a VERY good reason !

Also, if anyone is hoping to pick up Gamecube versions Midway Arcade Classics 1 and 2 for next month's TR, you'd do me a huge favor if you picked up the PS2 versions instead and then swapped for my GC versions. I prefer my bigger screen and my PS3 arcade stick for many of the titles on these discs!

I just finished Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

I played it as the password-continuation game from Oracle of Ages. I didn't go back to Ages and use the secrets to unlock new items, though, so I never got the master sword. I also never actually used any rings in the game, since they seemed kind of tacked-on, and it struck me that I should be able to finish both games without ever using them.

Overall, I liked Seasons a lot more than Ages. It has more in common with the older Zelda games I grew up with. Oracle of Ages just got on my nerves with the endless backtracking and fetch quests. Seasons was more streamlined and straightforward.

Boss battles are tougher in Seasons than Ages, in my opinion. Puzzles seem to be tougher in Ages than Seasons, though. Really, I think I would have liked Ages more if it had not been for all of the annoyances on Mt. Goron.

Oh, and by the end of Oracle of Seasons for me, Maple had a flying saucer. Apparently that only happens if she beats you in picking up items enough times, though I could be wrong on that.

Overall, I had fun with both, but I don't see myself playing through them again. If I do play one of them again, it will be Oracle of Seasons.

just finished playing Pokemon Puzzle League for N64 on HARD mode. At the end of credits they give you a game code. I still think Tetris Attack for SNES was better than this (which I also finish on HARD mode).

I just beat the Elite Four and got the National Dex on Pokemon Platinum, and am completely itching to play Pokemon SoulSilver... (It's been sitting on my shelf since yesterday, after I got it from Nekocon, but I can't play it for another 2 weeks until my pharmacy tech training class is over... must study... )

Me too. I just finished Oracle of Seasons last week. It was a good game. The boss battles weren't too bad (I could solve most of them) except for the final boss. Now that guy was tough. I had to battle him like 12 different times before I could figure out how to beat him. The concept of using the rod to change the seasons was a cute concept.

I agree with you that the rings were kind of useless.

I'm now playing the Oracle of Ages. After completing the first dungeon, I noticed that there's a lot of similarities between the two games. Once I finish this game, I will have played/completed all of the GameBoy Zelda games. I'll probably continue on to N64 Ocarina of Time. My goal is to complete all of the Zelda games. But I wonder if perhaps I should take a break and play a different game (e.g, Golden Sun or Earthbound Zero)?

After I completed Oracle of Seasons, I wrote down the password but I wasn't careful enough because the code didn't work in Oracle of Ages (I later realized that I wrote down J instead of j) so I had to replay the boss battle again to get the code. Grrrh!

I'm not sure why Nintendo chose to use funky characters (e.g, spade, club, diamond, forward slash, etc) instead of just letters/numbers.

Yeah, it's important to get the code so that you can do the real final battle at the end. Fortunately, I think it's a little easier than the final battle against Onox in Seasons. Some of the rings can come in handy, but I just preferred to not use them. For instance, there is a ring to keep you from getting knocked back when hit. That can come in really handy in at least one boss battle, but I wanted to finish the game without using it.

I beat Cross Edge not too long ago, though I still need to do the postgame stuff. Once I tweaked my party slightly to give myself really good chain synergy it went from frustrating to fun again.
