Is Mass Effect any good?

Post by SpaceBooger »

I have a large backlog at this point, but with Mass Effect on sale this weekend at Steam I may have to pick it up.
But whats it like?
I like RPGs I liked KOTOR but I dont like FPS.

Here are my questions:
Is Mass Effect a RPG or FPS?
If you like the game why? and if not why?

Mass Effect is one of my favorite games on Xbox 360 and RPG's easily. I like it because it is an action RPG with great story, characters, and I like the morality choices you make throughout the game. I would definitely give it a try it's a fantastic game. I can't wait for Mass Effect 2 in January from Bioware. 8)

Why?
Because if the majority is FPS... I may have to disagree.
I really want to get this... but cant pull the trigger.

None of the game is FPS.

The battle system is third person shooter, you aim, you shoot. It has similar RPG elements like KOTOR. You level up, you get new weapons, upgrades, etc.

I really enjoyed this game - the story really pulls you in and the mix of exploration and character development adds a lot of depth. In short it does have some elements of a shooter but the RPG mechanics form the main thrust of this game. I can't recommend it enough and if you get it you won't be disappointed. :)

Just pick Bionic when you get to choose your class. They have more RPG-like abilities, like a magic user. The throw ability and the elevate ability are really fun to use.
