Playing Region-Locked Imports on the X360

Post by the7k »

Alright, if all goes according to plan, I'll be getting a 360 tomorrow. However, there's only a few US exclusives I want - what I really need to know how to do is play import games, and most of the imports that I want are region locked.

Do note that I will not be hooking my X360 to the internet, so anything funny business that would require that I never take it online is alright with me.

As I understand it right now there is no way to get around region locking. Modded consoles can play backups of their region but you cannot play JP region locked games on a US console.

Yeah, pray that the import game you want is region free...unlike Bayonetta :(

At least Cave shooters have been good to us stateside owners.

I thought that Mushihimesama was the only region free Cave game out of like six of theirs that are on the 360 in Japan.

I think there is a way to flash your 360 so it thinks it's a different region. It looked pretty involved though, and only worked with certain kernels IIRC. If someone built a mod chip that automated the process, it would be a real winner.

Well, now I'm not sure what to do. I really wanna play Dead Rising and Earth Defense Force 2017, but I just tried a PS3 game I imported from Europe and found that I need an HDTV to play it. PAL output, so my SDTV can't handle it.

I might just hold off on the 360 and get an HDTV first.

Yeah, the Xbox 360 has some great imports especially the shumps I have been wanting to try for quite some time. I hope someone figures out a way to go around it not very likely but would be cool nonetheless. I can't stand region locked imports!!

Yeah...his two comments must be unrelated. There are currently ZERO region-free Cave games. Mushi Futari is not out yet.

the7k, you'd probably be better off getting only a JP360, as more US games are region-free, thus enabling you to play them on a JP console.
