Any other fans of My Bloody Valentine out there?

Post by UBERTRON777 »

First heard them a couple of months ago and they have risen to become one of my favorite bands. They have a completely unique sound that's very surreal. I hope I might get to see them one day.

Is it sad I thought you were talking about the movie?

At least you didn't think of Bullet for My Valentine. Nearly everyone I talk to confuses it with that band and nearly kills me for talking about how much I like them.

I thought it would be a thread for the movie and I was gonna say "Oh I thought we were talking about the band" only to see it be about the band : D

I know MBV and have tried to get into them many times over the years as they are an influence of some other bands I've liked. I've probably listened to most of their albums and I've certainly listened to their hallmark "Loveless" a dozen times or more and just queued it up again in honor of this thread....

I just can't dig it, sorry. They don't sound that revolutionary or nuanced, even for when this album came out. I am a pretty good student of rock history, and I can listen to something that influenced later things and still appreciate what it did for its time since I fully understand the surrounding context. But I can't get into this band, no matter how much I try. They aren't bad by any means, they just strike me as kind of "meh." Maybe it's the vocals? Maybe it's the similarity of most of the songs? I always feel like I should like this band but just can't come around on them.

I don't want to discourage anyone from checking them out though, they are a well-regarded pioneer in the "wall of fuzzy sound" category of music, and some of their stuff (esp. Loveless) is certainly worth a listen or two.

Me taking an extreme dump into a running blender sounds better than MBV. I'm joking. I have no idea who they are. :D

I thought the same thing Ack. It's what I get for retreating from modern music and staying exclusively in the class rock domain.

More modern than the music I generally listen to on the radio. Every once in a while there's a U2 song, but I think those are from the 80's.
