There's no way 70% of the PS2's library is good. But based on the review archives at IGN I would say that in only a few years, the wii has nearly caught up to the PS2 in 5.0 rated games and lower. Pretty depressing considering the PS2 had a 6 year head start.

You mean to tell me that you could honestly walk into a Gamestop right now and look at the wall of PS2 games and without hesitation, say that half of those games are low-budget, crap shovelware games?

I simply don't believe that.

On the other hand, I could very easily say that about the Wii section. As could a lot of people

I suppose I look at things a little differently. I'm not bothered by shovelware at all. Instead, it makes the true (sometimes hidden) gems that much greater by comparison. There are examples of "bad" products in every industry, be it television, film, literature.

Quite frankly they help stratify the tasteful from the tasteless and let's all admit that nothing feels better than looking down at the common masses and laughing as you power on your awesomely obscure and unrecognized console and game of choice. I don't think retro-collecting would be nearly as fun if every game was a gem, and every gamer was attracted to and shared the same level/type of taste. We retro gamers are sort of the equivalent of connoisseurs of fine literature, wine, or classical music. I say let the rest have their shovelware.

Not in my neck of the woods. The PS2 still does very well out here in the Twin Cities area. So a lot of stores have a full wall dedicated to pre-owned and new PS2 games

Did you get what he was trying to say based on what he wrote, or preconceived notions you brought to the thread yourself?

There is nothing in his post to clarify whether he is complaining about amount of shovelware or whether he is complaining about particularly egregious examples of shovelware. The quantity of crap on a system and the ridiculousness of the crap on a system are two very different topics. All he gave us was one datapoint.

How is what you are saying any different? We can't all get along and I can see how weekend warrior sees what he does as a problem and still not agree with him. Read dsheneimans Troll thread and say your comments don't fall under one of thoes examples.
What do you want people to say? Should we censor Weekend warrior for believing what he does and censor others for dissagreeing. No one has just bashed anything for no reason or defended it for no reason on this thread. There has been a little name calling. But no "Wii sucks because it sucks and Xbox is king because I said so".

I'm assuming you're talking about sports games. It's true that companies like EA aren't spending the big bucks on producing PS2 games anymore. But then again, EA has never been known for producing major updates to their sports titles year after year unless it's for a new dedicated system.

But that is a whole other debate.
