If you are worried about breaking it, just invest in an antistatic mat and you should be ok, as long as you don't sweat/dribble into the console.

If I had a nickel for every console I've dribbled in...

My mate opened his 360 to do the x-clamp fix and nearly busted his console because he dribbled into it. I have no idea why he had his mouth open whilst 'fixing' the console. It must have been that ever so sexy motherboard. I just told him to put it in a warm and dry place for a few days to make sure it properly dries out.

Only get the 250GB if you aren't planning to get a bigger hard-drive later. 120GB will handle fine for quite some time, and you can just upgrade later.

I like the nice grey box that the new one comes in.

Also, I really doubt that I'd ever need more than 250GB on the PS3. Mainly because I already have a 360.
