Hope you decided to pay a premium for your memory cards and hard drives that do less so that they would have that nice "Licensed for Xbox 360" logo on them, because once you download the newest update, they shall be made useless.

It's a shame. I didn't even know you could get third party memory cards myself.
Perhaps it's a thwart towards piracy? Are people using third party memory units to boot backups somehow?

It's possible, but I somehow doubt that its a huge problem. Most of the people I see doing this are simply trying to save a few bucks.
For $40, you can get a 512 MB Official Memory Card. Or, you could get an Unofficial Datel 2GB Memory Card, also for $40. I don't see why anyone would go with the former, whether you were strapped for cash or not.

Business 101: Money > Everything else. Until there are some massive changes to how this world works, we won't ever see an end to this sort of thing.
Should you step over someone's dying body to grab that nickel off the ground? Of course you should! You will be rewarded for it. Those who ignore the nickel and instead help the person, will quickly find themselves out of a job. How sickening ><;
"The customer is always right"? Hahaha. More like, "If it's a worthwhile investment, listen to the customer today so you can get his money later, otherwise fuck em."

Read up on it a little bit. Just seems weird that MS would give Datel the ok back in May to produce memory units, and now pull the rug out from under them. I wonder if Datel will file suit against them?

Datel against Microsoft? That fight'll be over quicker than Evander Holyfield vs the Army of 15-foot tall cyborg Mike Tysons.Flak Beard wrote:Read up on it a little bit. Seriously though, Microsoft just gets worse with the money grubbing. When SF4 came out and there wasn't an arcade stick to be found, I was quite jealous of my PS3 owning friends using any old stick out of the closet with adapters. Not to mention USB keyboards Vs "chatpads", or a huge selection of wireless bluetooth headsets Vs the $50 MS branded wireless headset. Its pretty damn ridiculous.
Re: Those using unauthorized X360 Memory Devices: WARNING!
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Then, one day, I saw it on my Pay-Per-View listing. Best 15 seconds ever.
On-Topic, I know many people who use unofficial hard-drives with their X360s, and I honestly can't blame them. This would be about the same as if Sony made it where, say, God of War would silently update the PS2 firmware to lock-out any unofficial memory cards. I'd be back in the stone age.

This seems such an odd move on Microsoft's part. It's almost as if they want to shaft the customer in every single way possible.
Yes the proprietary wireless adaptor is sucky, but you can get around that by buying a wireless bridge (which is more flexible and works better) for half the price. A wireless headset isn't that essential since the one you get free plugs into the controller anyway, and since the controller is wireless and the cord for the headset isn't longer than your arms, what's the problem? Likewise with the chatpad, aside from being a little more convenient since it's attached to the bottom of your controller there isn't anything stopping you using a regular USB keyboard for chat/text input, who hasn't got one those spare? Even my wireless one with a dongle works perfectly fine. So the whole proprietary addons isn't that much of a big deal, there are alternatives and workarounds, but forcing people to only buy an official memory card stings a little. Especially since the users the Arcade (or whatever it's called now) is marketed to, wouldn't especially know not to use third party memory cards, so these customers will get the shaft and not even know what has hit them.

News flash, Microsoft: 80 GB PCI hard drives that belong in desktop computers can be had for next to nothing. This isn't the nineties anymore.
