PS1/PS2 dilemma
Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
I own both, buy yourself a PSX from a Cash Converters, they go for $15.
Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
I have just been playing the PS1 games on the PS3. It takes care of that pesky memory card problem. I don't have too many though. A problem I probably need to fix
Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
In PAL territories RGB is the best. So you wouldn't gain anything from using component on a PS2 since it would still only be 480i at best (resolution of the game permitting of course). A PAL PS1 with RGB SCART is the best possible way of viewing the PS1.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but with the PS1 the best available video out option is S-Video, and that's a step below Component which you could get from using the PS2 and PS3.
Component on PS2 is hardly worth bothering with in PAL territories, there's only 36 games that support progressive scan. Only a handful of which actually gain anything from it. The support is really sporadic too, such as GH2 having 480p and GH3 not, Soul Calibur 2 has it but Soul Calibur 3 doesn't, Tekken 4 has it but Tekken 5 doesn't.
Personally I find my plasma TV looks better with the PAL standard 576i rather than 480p, it just looks sharper for some reason, I much prefer my Wii to run in 576i rather than 480p for this exact reason. It simply looks better.

Agreed. SCART is basically the best thing ever when it comes to visual fidelity for pre-HD consoles.Niode wrote: In PAL territories RGB is the best. Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
that is incorrect. the best video on a PS1 is RGB, since he's in PAL land he probably has SCART on his TV and can just buy a SCART RGB cable for it.Hobie-wan wrote:That's correct. Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
I am sorry I mentioned I am in PAL territory , I didn't realize it would make a huge confusion in the subject.
I live in the middle east, and we are a PAL territory but for reasons I do not understand NTSC is just as available as PAL.
I can buy pal 360 or NTSC, or anything, they just add an electric converter and life goes on. Same thing with DVDs or any other equipment , so it doesn't really matter(the region I mean) but I chose NTSC, I feel better going the American way.
The reason I said a psx would cost me just as much as a new ps2 is that I need American PO box for shipping, and my shipping company: http://www.aramex.com ,
gives me an American PO box BUT it charges me $10 for each 1 pound(minimum) of weight. In the end I will pay something like $40 of shipping + $30-20 psx= $60-70 for a decade old system or $100 for brand new ps2. If you pass the 1 pound by a 0.1 , then you pay another $7 for extra weight and so it goes.
I will also need it to be modded, because I will not buy games like Deathtrap Dungeon ($3 on amazon) for $13 because I had to ship it! If the package is stuffed it will reach 1.1 pounds then I have to pay $20!!!
I hope no one blames me for pirating.
The solution is to ship international by regular mail, but I have not found any one willing to sell his psx/modded/good condition , international mail even if I am paying up front.

Re: PS1/PS2 dilemma
not really. the PS2 cant play some PS1 games properly, and the later model PS1s are VERY reliable. ive had my SCPH-101 PSone since around xmas of 2000 and its still alive and kickingMaliceValentine wrote:yeah my PAL PSX hacked in about twice now and has costed me 50 each time to fix the laser your better off with the ps2 trust me i just need my modded PSX to play NTSC games because ps2's over here are ridiculously hard to mod and always break -___-

And here I am complaining everyday about $2 each pound, makes decision tougher when importing stuff. What I usually do is try to buy bundles only.kingmohd84 wrote: The reason I said a psx would cost me just as much as a new ps2 is that I need American PO box for shipping, and my shipping company: http://www.aramex.com ,
