Well this seems to be my favorite SF game, the only one I've ever really gotten into and been able to play for more than a half hour actually (even though I consider myself a seasoned SF fan). There is one problem I have with the game though...
Birdie.
Holy, mother fucking raptor Jesus.
This has got to be the most cheap fighter of any fighter I've ever played. The rest of the game goes perfectly, but then I get to this guy. I am normally pretty good at Street Fighter, and can usually crank it up to the higher difficultys and have a good challenge with the 2 fighters I'm best with (Guy, then Chun-Li respectivly) but my goodness, I had to turn the difficulty to 1 star to get past this guy. I was about to cry. No character should have a move as cheap as his chain grab. Absolutely NONE.
(Although I don't have much trouble unless I'm in Turbo mode, which is the only way to play in my opinion)

First off...which console are you playing it on? I never really had a problem with Birdie. I mean, sure, his chain throw is pretty nasty, but beyond that I never had too much trouble. Truthfully of everyone in that game, Sagat and Akuma gave me a little trouble by virtue of who they are, and Adon's anti-air would catch me a lot since I have a bad habit of favoring jumpkicks to get close to an opponent, but Birdie didn't bug me.

The only other person that gave me any sort of a problem was Dhalsim of all people, although once I learned his attacks it was easy to avoid them.

If you're having problems with Birdie on 8 stars, you do not want to face me then. Go into training, enable com at 8 stars and practice until you get it.
Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
I have Street Fighter Alpha for my Saturn and had trouble with Birdie as well. He wasn't impossible to beat, but that chain throw drove me crazy at times. I still haven't picked up Street Fighter Alpha 2... I should probably give it a try though.
I had a severe Street Fighter drought between Super Street Fighter II and Street Fighter IV. I never owned any of the Street Fighters or any Capcom fighters between those two games. Now is my time to catch up I guess.

As I have said before, FUCK SAGAT!!!! He pisses me off on the same level as Seth on SF4. Birdie is annoying, but never was a serious threat to me.
Props on SFA2 being your favorite though. My favorite as well.

Does this mean your Saturn arrived?
Stupid USPS site still gives me deer in the headlights when I try to check tracking numbers.

Nope, been playing it with a USB pad and emulator. Although USPS tracking does do that a lot. I would expect it tomorrow.Hobie-wan wrote:Does this mean your Saturn arrived?

Re: Street Fighter Alpha 2... made me almost cry
I've found that using hard kick from an areal jump or as a leg sweep tends to get me past Birdie in under a minute in most circumstances.
Then again my primary is good old Ryu, and I tend to have some trouble with Guy.
Also I agree with you completely, SF:Alpha 2 & 2 Gold is one of the best fighters ever made and really captured that SF feel that I think was lost in Alpha III (I HATE the Capcom announcer guy, music and general pace of the game). I still find SF:III New Generation & 2nd Impact to be my favorite SF's followed by SF:A2, then SF:III Third Strike (although SF:III is the most balanced and well made 2D fighter ever created in my opinion the other installments overshadow it when it comes down to sheer fun factor) and finally SF:II and all of it's various installments given my lack of experience with the SF:II series.
Also check out the PS2 SF:Alpha Anthology, it has all of the Alpha games including gold, Pocket Fighter with unlockable Alpha III Upper and Hyper SF:Alpha. Plus by holding down triangle and X as your PS2/PS3 system boots the game up activates a progressive scan mode for a lag free experience on an HDTV.

Just choose a character with a projectile and spam. Birdie will go down like a bitch.
