Anyone notice the Sega Bias on this forum? Anyone willing to admit it?
I think it might be because they had CD based systems longer than most, and in retrospect their games where great- still are in fact.
The Sega Bias...
I think more people on this forum just happened to have Sega machines. And you have to admit, from a retro perspective, Sega did hold the 16-bit market for a long time and while the Saturn flopped in the US, it did have a plethora of retro-friendly titles in Japan. And the Dreamcast was a critical success in the US even if a market failure in Japan.
I think there are a lot of Nintendo fans here, too. Those conversations just seem to come up less often. Me, I prefer the PC-Engine to everything else, and the NES and GBA to the SNES (yeah, I know, I'm a heretic).

The circles of friends I had back then where far more into Nintendo things, I tended to have both Nintendo and Sega systems. But I leaned more to the Nintendo side, so that is what I know more about. I think its great that you guys know so much about the Sega systems, I've picked up quite a few things already.
If there is one, it's only because Racket is a Sega fan, and has produced many Sega articles, many of which surely attracted additional Sega fans.
Can't say the same for myself. I'm 35% Sega, 35% Nintendo, 10% Sony Playstation 1, 20% PC gaming. Actually, all I've done for a month or two is PC and GBA.

@mozgus: I absolutely love my DSes (yeah the plural form- I've managed to collected quite a few by now) and the GBAs before that. The PSP titles for the most part don't keep me coming back.
I'm damn near as excited to get my Saturn as I was for the the Wii months ago. I ordered on Ebay on Thursday/Friday/Saturday (I forget which day exactly) so I hope to get it soon. I think my excitement can be blamed on the Sega bias here.

I will admit I am a big Sega Fan and there is a bit of bias in me.
But then again I know that both Racketboy and I were at SegaXtreme.net long before he created this site. I came over here after seeing his signature over on SX all the time. SX had died down quite a bit at the time (and still hasn't found the popularity it had since Iceman was running it) so I stayed here. I still visit SX regularly, but more or less just lurk over there, maybe remove any spam posts that appear on my clock.
My big problem over at SX now a days is that the only crew that has stuck around are the hardcore tech guys who do a lot of Sega dev work. Programming and hacking and the sort. Like that french dude behind the Sega Saturn emulator and the other dude who does the whole C3 contests... I don't fit in well with that clique
I like this clique over here a lot more. More about the games they enjoy. I like dev, but dev on the Sega Genesis? Come on, what the hell am I gonna do with any of the projects. Not my area, I'll let them make all the cool little things.
...oh yeah...
and there is a certain someone over there who really annoys the piss out of me. no need to say names, but anyone who has been there probably knows who it is.

Yeah, I've been meaning to peek in over there, but yeah, the conversation really died down. Funny thing is, Ice never commented much, so I don't know what other factors there would be. I used to post a TON on there, so maybe the gradual exodus of the heavy posters is what did it in.lordofduct wrote:I will admit I am a big Sega Fan and there is a bit of bias in me.

I think their problem is they didn't have anything else of substance to keep it going and bringing in fresh members. I like here, I'm sure a lot of our new members come in from Google when they find some of my guides and such. Others may be some of my store customers.
But to answer the original question, yes I admit to the Sega bias.
But like said above, it is mostly due to my past experiences (grew up on Sega) and the fact that people come here for the wealth of Sega info and store items and stay for the other good stuff.
As for me personally, I've really expanded my horizons the last few years as I am mostly a Nintendo gamer for newer stuff. Sega's stuff since the Dreamcast has really been a letdown.

I am a diehard Nintendo fan, but I am also a huge fan of 2d gaming. The Saturn is considered a bit of a rarity in my neck of the woods - Ive actually had people ask where I got the black playstation from - so I enjoy it far more than I should based mainly on the fact that people have no idea what it is half the time, or theyve never seen one in person. Same could be said about Jaguar, but an Atari without Joust is dead to me.
