There's a torrent on UG that has XP-optimized versions of all the Gabriel Knight games in it. It works fine. You may be able to find it elsewhere and just download the installer and patches that're needed.

Oh, hah, I hadn't even noticed you were on a mac. In that case, I've no idea. Go buy an old computer.

I go with this route.

Since I started using VmWare and VirtualBox it's been awesome. I usually have a vm of several well know OS's open at the same time.

I run Linux natively, and host VMs for: Vista, XP, 98, OSX, Solaris, and BSD.

I dual boot 7 as well.

What VM do you run 9x on? I tried 95 on Virtualbox and it was so slow as to be unusable. Is VMWare any better? Are there guest additions for 9x on VMWare?

werid...

I used it on both VirtualBox and Vmware and got pretty good outcomes. They were both the free versions I compiled myself for Ubuntu...

As for 9x guests for Vmware, I created my own, so I don't know of any out there that are available.

[edit]

you do have good settings to run 9x. Bar in mind the max requirements and also some of the odd quarks that vmware or virtualbox can put in place that 9x won't support.

For instance Keep the memory below 512megs (9x acts weird above it). I use 256 megs for the vm. If it's to high applications will act sluggish and even report "not enough memory", it's something weird about all the 9x's even though they technically support 2gigs.

Also keep the disk size down. I use a 2 gig virtual disk for the OS and stuff. If I need more space I'll create a second disk for it.

Also a very important thing is turning off emulated processor features. For instance in Virtualbox you NEED to turn off PAE/NX and the AMD-v crap.
