Well, from a business perspective, having a mascot for a game can be a great thing. You create your own virtual celebrity. Since they are a fictional celebrity, you can slap their face on whatever merchandise you want and never have to pay them a dime or worry about them refusing to have their likeness turned into a Happy Meal toy.l
A good point, there's also the image factor. When you think about Nasonex, you think of that CGed bee, when you think of Scrubbing Bubbles, you think of that cute scrubber, when you think of Mr. Clean, you think of that creepy bald guy, when you think of Coca-Cola, you think of those cute Polar Bears (at least during Christmas). A good mascot can be a great strength for a corporation.
