PS3 Motion Controller Coming in Early 2010

Post by sevin0seven »

Straight out of the Tokyo Game Show, we've just been informed by Sony that their Motion Controller will be released in Spring 2010. The controller, which teams up with the PlayStation Eye camera is capable of recognizing and tracking a user's face and voice as well as body motion, PlayStation Eye can also output the player's image onto the TV screen.

The controller will also include the rumble feature.

Adding to the announcement is also the revelation of a pretty good sized list of games that will be compatible or build specifically for the new controller.

Those games are:

Ape Escape (Working Title)
Echochrome 2 (Working Title)
Eccentric Slider (Working Title)
Sing and Draw (Working Title)
Champions of Time (Working Title)
Motion Party (Working Title)
The Shoot (Working Title)
Tower (Working Title)
PAIN*
Flower*
Hustle Kings*
High Velocity Bowling*

The titles with the asterik will get motion control functionality through a network update.

That thing look like a light bulb to me  sorry Sony, but I think Nintendo still wins on this one.

I just hope they don't gimmick the crap out of this. IMHO 50% of Wii titles could be improved by removing "waggling", and changing things over to standard button presses.

Yes, there are plenty of games that can benefit from these sorts of devices. No, forcing every game in your catalogue to use it is not the right thing to do.

So, I could spend $200 for motion controls or $300 for motion controls. Hm.

Saying that videogames get more accessible by employing motion controls is an illusion. If anything, button presses are more accessible, for they considerably shorten the process of executing an action in a game. It just so happens that videogames with motion controls are accessible -- since Wii controls are so inaccurate, games tend to be rather simple to accomodate its control scheme.

Give it about a year more at most, like other motion controls such as the EyeToy before it everyone is going to want one, then aside from little kids and old people they'll all get bored with it and move on.

It's like the music game genre that's finally dying out (GS won't trade-in guitars anymore and only orders 5 regular copies & 2 bundles of the game max for only stores with pre-orders.) and the current slow death of the FPS fad.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
