As I read the title of your topic, I thought to myself, "Viewtiful Joe, for sure". Apperantly I'm not the only one who dislikes it, since the TC listed it first.
I also hate Super Star Wars, and the Starfox series. The only even slightly fun Starfox game was Starfox 64. The rest stank.
And Test Drive Le Mans for Dreamcast was a yawnfest too.

Shoot chief, I own Super Star Wars and I can't stand it. Don't feel bad about that one. And I've never felt like I really got Starfox.BoringSupreez wrote:As I read the title of your topic, I thought to myself, "Viewtiful Joe, for sure". As for some of the others, I've beaten Halo and Halo 2. In fact, I've beaten Halo multiple times. I can honestly say I dislike the series, or at least the first two, based on playing it through. I don't think they're necessarily bad games, but I don't feel they're nearly as good as they are hyped to be. I also have beaten Final Fantasy 7 multiple times, and I feel it's overhyped, though still an enjoyable experience.
As for Team Fortress 2, I have ever right to say I hate that game in comparison to TFC, for one good reason: I play Medic. In TFC, I was a versatile class, capable of reasonable offense and defense, fully armed with a small arsenal to help spread chaos on the battlefield. I was fast, mobile thanks to concs, and could keep coming back after a few hits thanks to regenerating health. In TF2, I'm not mobile, I'm not fast, and I don't have much in the way of means to take out the enemy. In TF2, I sit behind a heavy, or a soldier, or whoever else is the frontline tank in that game, and I support them. And that's it.
To me, the whole focus of the TF series changed in Team Fortress 2. TFC was pure unadulterated chaos, even in a game where strategy could, and did, play a heavy hand. In TFC the world around you was exploding constantly, from class weapons to hand grenades, to sentry turrets. The point of the game was that you were going to do, so try to outrun, outgun, or outguile your opponents in whatever way necessary to make sure they bit the dust before you. And as a medic, I got to be right in the thick of it, capping flags and points and wasting enemies while helping out my buddies if I felt like it. But I could fill multiple roles. In TF2...not so much, I'm pigeonholed.
And despite what people seem to think, the AIDS a medic gave wasn't a limiting thing. It wasn't some broken weapon meant to leave folks cowering in fear in their spawn points. AIDS was actually the most liberating tool a medic had, because it merely reinforced the fact that, in TFC, you die. No matter what. So once you get AIDS, you should jump into the nearest nest of enemies and go 100%, spraying bullets in all directions, chucking every grenade you've got. TF2 took that from me, and it's something I can never forgive.

Final Fantasy VII.
I just kept sinking time into it so that I could get further and see what all the fuss was about. Then I eventually realized I'd put so much time into it and it hadn't gotten fun yet. That's when I stopped. I just don't particularly care for the setting or story.

No problem...pepharytheworm wrote:Well then by all means please enlighten us on why you don"t like Odin Sphere, Disgaea, Psychonuats and anything with "Shin Megami Tensai"in the title.
Odin Sphere - This game had so much potential. It is no doubt beautiful, but it is shamefully broken up into tiny and uninteresting levels. You kill a few enemies, collect the experience and move to the next "sphere". Not to mention, in order to gain character levels you have to grow an eat food. It's tedious and boring. I'm sure the story would of been great towards the end, but I couldn't make myself play that long to see it for myself.
Disgaea - Interesting characters, world, gameplay mechanics, but a completely broken experience system. Characters only get EXP for killing an enemy or being part of a team kill. This leaves support characters out of the loop. Why shouldn't a healer get EXP for actually healing? That's what they do. I often hear Disgaea being touted as the "Final Fantasy Tactics Killer". Yeah right.
Psychonauts - Once again, an interesting universe of characters and humor. On the bottom sits a generic platformer though. Platformers are a dime a dozen, and there are too many good ones to pass up for this one.
SMT - Maybe I'm just old-school in the RPG department, but these games just feel like they are more for the new crowd of JRPG players. Persona 3 & 4 especially. I just can't find myself relating to Japanese high school students, and I found the pacing in both games to be horrible. More time is spent chatting it up in class than climbing the tower at night or roaming the dungeons.

Most SMT titles are hard dungeon crawlers with a western style. (First person, stats, etc). The Persona titles are pretty spinoff-y and are a mix of RPG and Social simulation thus if you want a pure RPG it's not for you.Flak Beard wrote:SMT - Maybe I'm just old-school in the RPG department, but these games just feel like they are more for the new crowd of JRPG players.

I can't seem to bring myself to finishing this one either. I'm probably about 75% through the story, but still haven't come to grips with the battle systems and skills. It just feels clunky to me for some reason. Also, the world is very boring and I'm getting lost far more often than I did in Oblivion.JDMThoughts wrote:Fallout 3..... have been trying to get into this game, but it's not really my cup of tea... I am gonna keep trying to pursue it more and see if anything changes in the next couple weeks.

Mmm, I like post-apocalyptic games, so Fallout 3's visual style didn't really bother me much. Sure, it's Oblivion with guns, but it also did give me a bit of the feel I got in STALKER while wandering around the city and suburban sections. My biggest complaint is that it's just not stable on my computer at all. So twenty minutes into a game, it crashes. No matter the graphical settings. No matter the reinstall. No matter the amount of mods or lack thereof. It crashes. And it freaks, thinking I'm some kind of pirate, so starting the game is a hassle. And apparently it doesn't like my sound card, so listening to the radio in the game actually causes it to crash faster.

Never really liked Mario 3, something about it bugs me..
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
The first super star wars is alright. After that they became so rediculously hard there was no fun value in them whatsoever. Unless you enjoy completing things for the sake of saying that you've done it.
I don't think I ever really grasped the following starfox has. I have the one for snes and n64. The snes one is alright but too choppy by todays standards. I never really felt like I was accomplishing anything or getting better. Sometimes I'd beat a level and sometimes I wouldn't. Starfox 64 is a lot better. I haven't played the gamecube ones but the action oriented one looks pretty fun. The on foot parts seem cool, at least moreso than the adventuring crap from sfa. I haven't played the ds one yet either. I think nintendo just doesn't know what to do with this series. The characters all seem pretty cool and there's huge potential, they just haven't tapped it yet. I like the idea of the characters getting out of their ships but it has to be done right.
Maybe they should just give falco his own game.
