i don't know if I should get a manual one or an automated one, and don't know which to try, amazon gives me mixed reviews and game shops charge like $4 per disc with no guarantee

Let me tell you, I tried al those tricks a long time ago. Toothpaste, soft sanding, umm peanut butter and jelly, etc. The stuff doesn't work as well as everyone says. You have to use the old toothpaste type, bullstuff. I finally figured it out when I was working on my cars rims!

Go to your local Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Walmart, etc. Buy "MOTHERS Aluminum Polish" not the chrome shiner. Use a clean rag and polish the cd with mothers until you make the surface black from the polishing. Then use another clean rag to, in a polishing motion, take off the polish.

You'll now see a lot of marks on the cd but they are only cosmetic. It works, first hand experience. Use it also on rims, door knobs, etc.
