Help With Quake 3 Arena Servers
I know that Quake 3 Arena is still being hosted online for the Dreamcast, and I'm trying to connect to a server to play online. It says in the Q3A settings to input your username and password. What username and password? Am I supposed to be registered somewhere? I am using a Broadband adapter, and the menu says "LAN Settings". Also, all the IP address spaces are at 0.0.0.0. What should I do?
Re: Help With Quake 3 Arena Servers
I'm pretty sure that the servers will be 3rd party now so you need to find their IP settings for them on the internet. I don't know of any for the DC though.
Why don't you just play Quake Live. It's completely free and is a better game than the DC version, you just need a windows PC with IE or Firefox. You don't really need any beefy graphics settings to play it either. Plus it's completely browser based so there's no game to download (aside from the initial streamlining of the content at first which only takes about 5 or 10 minutes, depending on connection).

Why? Because it's not on the Dreamcast, that's why.Niode wrote:Why don't you just play Quake Live. Re: Help With Quake 3 Arena Servers
Last I checked, you can only play the DC version of servers running a specific old revision, as well as using some custom files and maps. The DC version actually has some exclusive maps, and exclusive changes to other maps, so the servers need these matching files. Surely you can google up a guide on this.

Wait, what you're saying is that I need the PC AND Dreamcast versions of Q3A to play it online on my Dreamcast? How does that work?
Re: Help With Quake 3 Arena Servers
No, I'm saying you need to use a PC to setup a dedicated Dreamcast-only server to play on, unless you can find one already out there that's reliable and within your ping zone.lisalover1 wrote:Wait, what you're saying is that I need the PC AND Dreamcast versions of Q3A to play it online on my Dreamcast? Is it really worth the hassle though when you can just play Quake Live on just about any PC made in the last 5 years?

Agreed. But it is neat just to see the game go online with your DC. I did it a couple years ago when someone loaned me a broadband adaptor for DC. Even took pics, because it seemed like a kodac moment.Niode wrote:Is it really worth the hassle though when you can just play Quake Live on just about any PC made in the last 5 years?

Re: Help With Quake 3 Arena Servers
I got it working!
What happened was that I had my DC hooked up to an ethernet cable splitter, which was connected to my router. All I needed to do to get it working was connect it directly to the router. Anyway, I'm very happy that it's working now!
