I love the virtuosity of metal, but the attitude that goes with it just makes me laugh. Yeah yeah, you're so macho and scary whatever. I'd love to hear some metal bands put the same energy and skill into an acoustic album. That would kick ass.
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
Re: What do you listen to?
Buckethead did some crazy acoustic work on a side project with Jonas Hellborg. The album is called "Octave of the Holy Innocents", and yes, it does kick ass.Hatta wrote:I'd love to hear some metal bands put the same energy and skill into an acoustic album. That would kick ass.

Re: What do you listen to?
I like grunge rock, old school hip hop, 90's alternative, some techno/house stuff, and assorted randomness and instrumentals. I've got a turntable next to my computer with a mixer between them, so i can mix vinyl with whatever I'm listening to, mixing, or composing on my PC. it's basically a DJ setup but one turntable has been replaced with a laptop.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I listen to everything, and I mean everything. I am too lazy to list my favorites, but I am going to say that my favorite as of July 23, 2009 7:43 PM is Ugly Kid Joe.

Oh good. Another one of these threads.

Grateful Dead - I missed Jerry, but I've seen the rest of the boys many times. It's ironic how this icon of hippie counterculture has such a deep connection to American roots music.
John Hartford - Guys, get Steam Powered Aereo-Plane. Seriously.
Charlie Mingus - Gotta love a jazz band fronted by the bassist.
Sound Tribe Sector 9 - Probably my favorite act to see at a festival these days.
Nine Inch Nails - This was High School for me, finally saw him last year. Fucking tore it up.
Parliament/Funkadelic - P. Funk parties really don't stop. See them at a festival if you can.
David Grisman - Most innovative mandolin player since Bill Monroe.
Strength in Numbers - Bluegrass supergroup, every member is a legend in his own right. Listen here, you'll thank me. Very modern stuff.
Phish - Damn I wish I could have gotten tickets this year.
Bill Monroe - The master.
J.S. Bach - I love his fugues, and the solo cello and violin suites. Amazing polyphonies even from a single instrument.
Mike Seeger - Great old-time performer.
I tried last.fm, but I have so much music it's rare for anything to get listened to more than twice. So it can't really generate meaningful statistics.
I used to hate country, and I still hate George Jones, Garth Brooks, etc. But there's a lot more to country than that. There's a rich tradition of amazing musicianship. Give bluegrass a try. Steam Powered Areo-Plane is *the* bridge between traditional bluegrass and somewhat jazzier "newgrass". It's a great place to start.
Yeah since im only 16 i missed Jerry also.. but i did manage to catch the dead in concert about a month ago.I saw NIN in concert a cupple of months ago and it was fucking awsome. It's hard to believe that he still puts on such good shows.Yeah i love Phish...They are incredible and i plan on seeing them sometime....Im going to get tickets to dinosaur Jr. pretty soon ^.^.Parliament/Funkadelic=Pure awsomeness...
