Genesis controller port help.
Genesis controller port help.
Hey dudes, this forum seems to move a bit faster then ben heck forums. So I figure I'll throw this question around here too. Ok I got a bunch of genesis(es) at a local fleamarket and now I'm looking at selling one of them. The only high def graphics logo genesis that I have, seems to have a problem with the controller port. The 1p controller port, left, A and B dont seem to work....sooo can I get any help on this? I havn't found too much information other then, check the pins (which are perfect.) or that theres some transformers on the board that might need some replacing?
Re: Genesis controller port help.
Are you sure it's not the controller that's the problem?

Re: Genesis controller port help.
Are they generic controllers, or official ones?
I've had issues with generic controllers working perfect on one system but unusable on others, so I recommend trying it with an official 3 button or 6 button pad if possible.

Re: Genesis controller port help.
I have several 3 button, 1st party controllers and 1 6 button generic controllers, both of which I know work on other systems. I'm really thinkin, somehow something with the pins went bad. Because the solder points seem to have continuity.

Yeah I'm guessing the pins on the controller ports must have oxidized over, and you may need to gut one of the others for a spare pair of ports.

Re: Genesis controller port help.
well the 2p port works fine, so i was guessing the same. I'm not afraid to gut one for another port, and look at fixing the port later if its possible.
Re: Genesis controller port help.
Thread Resurrection!
I seem to be having the same problem with both my Genesis. Is there any other solution other than gutting? I only have 2 and they both seem to have that problem.

Re: Genesis controller port help.
I'm thinking also the joy port as others have mentioned. Player one connection usually gets the most wear from unplugging and plugging over the years. Maybe check inside and see if all the solder joints are solid. Quick melt of each individual solder connection with a hot iron might do the trick.
