Return to Oz and Kung Fu Hustle.

Both were okay, but neither really impressed me.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: I thoroughly enjoyed this. Giant insects of doom are awesome

How the hell wasn't Kung Fu Hustle impressive? The movie is a freaking masterpiece.

I don't know, there were certainly elements to it that I liked. The actions scenes and whatnot were entertaining (I especially enjoyed the magicians), but there were a lot of slow scenes that described the story, which I considered a non issue.

Ahhh....The story bits do tend to take a little away from the action.

If you liked it though, you owe it to yourself to watch Shaolin Soccer. 100% more Steven Chowness abounds.

One of my fave movies. It's actually better than the MGM version. But then again, it IS kinda pointless when you read the book that it's based on. It's a gr8 movie, but a terrible adaptation.

For those who don't know, "Return to Oz" is a pseudo-sequel to the original, though it's actually adapted loosely from the 2nd and 3rd books in the original book series. It's almost more like the book's version of Oz than the MGM film.

Other gr8 Oz films are The Wiz (where the songs are also filled with double meanings, like how "Be a Lion" is about being brave when you have the hardest time being brave), Wicked (both the book and the musical), and 20th Century Oz (an Ozploitation film where Dorothy is a groupie, the Wizard is an androgynous rock star, the Good Witch is a homosexual clothing store owner, Scarecrow's a surfer, Tinman's a mechanic, The Cowardly Lion is a cowardly biker, the Wicked Witch is a trucker, and that land "over the rainbow" is now that land "under the radar").

And Ack... the Muppet films are nothing compared to the greatest two Jim Henson films in the world:

Ack wrote:Actually, Sukiyaki Western Django was a really good film. You might like it Mr. Popo. My only complaint was that the ability of some of the actors to give their lines in English was hit or miss.

And there's nothing wrong with Muppet Treasure Island, though I was more a Great Muppet Caper and Muppets Take Manhattan kind of guy.

As for Planet Terror and Death Proof, I loved Planet Terror. Awesome film that stuck to its guns and did what it needed to do. As for Death Proof, I actually forgot Kurt Russell was in the movie. Seriously, I had forgotten what movie I was watching, and what the point of said movie was.
This is the main comment I hear regarding Deathproof... I always tell people to fast forward to the car chase... great stuff.

As for muppets, nothing wrong with muppets, oh no... I'm not afraid of muppets, they're great... that damned chef with his human hands and his nonsensical vocab. No fear, breathe in, breathe out... I was more of a safe, animated muppet babies fan when I was young.

Dangit I cant remember the name of the film, but has anyone seen the post-apocalypse film with the marital arts guy (American and very white) who plays and carries around a guitar? If this is the movie that has been mentioned already I will feel very embarrassed, but I swear it seems like a different movie. This movie rocked... so corny, nothing to make you reconsider your purpose in life, just a movie with a white boy who kicks as at martial arts and also plays guitar.

Wicked is amazing. I'll be seeing it for the third time in September.
