I don't know...
Really? I thought it was more in the $20-30 range. You could probably pick it up for a little less if you poke around the shopping section of google, just watch out for those "windows xp recovery" cds.
Just buy an OEM licence. You can get em from ebay, you don't even need the CD, they'll just send you the genuine licence key in an email. There's a few on ebay right now for £20. If you already have the media then there's not much point in buying a brand new OEM copy when all you truly need is the 25 digit code.
Plus you can always just torrent the latest XP iso and you'll have all the latest updates etc.

My XP disk is an "upgrade disc" can I use a OEM licence with it?
edit - I cant find OEM licences on ebay... plus XP is over $50 there right now

That's what I was thinking of! Yeah, if you have the cd, you can just install xp on whatever computer and then enter the license key you get from the OEM. Thanks for clearing that up, Niode.
Um. I think the upgrade disk will only work on systems with a previous version of Windows on them. I don't know though. I'm sure you can find somebody with a disc that you can borrow, or you can always just torrent it. There's plenty of torrents of just a straight CD rip, rather than these hacked to buggery and back releases full of crap. The ones without a serial/crack are the ones you want to look for.

I have copies of all windows up to xp on disc, so having a disc for the upgrade check is no problem. I am just wondering if an OEM key would work with an upgrade install assuming I can find one cheap enough to buy.

It sounds like your situation is getting messy. I'd try customizing Vista to reduce some of the annoyance and give it another try. As of SP2 most of the major bugs are gone. I'm finding it to run all my emulators and older games just fine.
Ok, sorry this is getting messy.
My friend who is the technology director for a credit union gave me an XP Pro key. He says this key will work so its either a multiple license key or one from a now dead computer.
So can I use this key with my home edition disc, or do I need to find an iso of the pro version?
After I figure this part out I should be done asking seemingly stupid questions.
