With most people not owning HD tvs and internet speeds only getting faster (I am very tempted by the 100meg down Comcast is offering in my neck of the woods mid next month), high quality streaming via sites like Hulu, Apple, and Netflix, are going to circumvent the entire market. Why pay $25 for a blueray, when you can stream it for $1? Or in the case of Netflix, for a few dollars more a month. I mean I love hardcopies of movies and games, but I dont watch most movies I own more than 20 times.
This only works in countries with decent broadband adoption and pricing (i.e.: USA, and parts of Asia).
For the rest of us suckers paying $90 a month for 50GB a month of limited quota in other parts of the world thanks to zero competition in our local area, hard copies of movies are our only option.
And yes, I realise that USA+Asia represents a much bigger market than the piss-ant countries that don't have that sort of bandwidth. I agree it makes objective sense to shift to digital content distribution, but sadly if it happens I'll be left way behind.
