In The Mouth Of Madness is incredible.
You'd probably really like They Live, by the way. Brilliant film.

I just watched Minority Report. It wasn't a bad action film, though very predictable. And I still prefer Dick's original story.

In the past two weeks, I've seen UP, TRANSFORMERS: THEY'VE FALLEN AND CAN'T GET UP, and DRAG ME TO HELL.
Weird. UP was the best movie I've seen in years, and TRANSFORMERS was the worst movie I've seen in decades. Transformers is just a loud, obnoxious movie for ar-tards.

Just watched "The Hangover". Went in expecting the usual type of shallow plot this type of film typically delivers (given that it was directed by the same guy who did Road Trip, Old School, and Starsky & Hutch - all of which I considered somewhere between mildly amusing and utter shit), but was totally surprised.
Brilliant film. Pissed my shorts laughing in a few parts, cringed in plenty of others (for all the right reasons). The first movie I've seen in a LONG time that I considered worth the cost of the ticket.
After all the bad reviews Transformers was getting, I'm glad I watched this instead.

My friends are retarded. They all saw Transformers and wanted to see it a second time despite the abysmal reviews. I made the mistake of going with them, and while they enjoyed it just as much, it was a god awful movie as I originally expected.elvis wrote:Just watched "The Hangover". Hangover was great though.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I don't get the love for The Hangover - it struck me as a mediocre bromantic comedy which lacked any genuinely funny moments that had me LOLing in the theater. The best bits were shown many times in the trailers and I thought that, overall, the comedic talent of the cast was largely wasted. It was a great premise for a film - but the execution largely squandered that potential. I get the feeling that this is one of those movies everyone thinks should be funny (based on hype and pedigree) and then scrambles all over themselves to proclaim its genius to one another.
I understand that humor is very subjective, but can I really be the only one who thought this movie was average at best?

I was fortunate enough to not have seen any trailers, which I think helped it immensely. It's definitely a movie that can be spoiled easily (which is why I'll resist talking about anything specific).dsheinem wrote:I don't get the love for The Hangover - it struck me as a mediocre bromantic comedy which lacked any genuinely funny moments that had me LOLing in the theater. The other thing for me was (and I'll probably get flamed to high hell for this) the humour was decidedly un-American. This is not a slander on America nor Americans, but traditional Hollywood/SNL style humour I find typically to be blatant, obvious, in-your-face and completely un-funny. What was different about Hangover was not so much the humour itself, but the delivery. Much of it was quick and there was no "pause" moments where the director was leaving obvious time gaps for people to catch up with the jokes. Jokes were made, but they were done quickly and the scenes moved on whether the audience was ready or not. For that reason it just felt like it was attempting to appeal to an audience with more than the average intelligence of a 12 year old, which seems to be the target for most Will Ferrell, Jack Black and co movies of late.
The other factor for me was the lack of any real big name / big budget actors. It's getting to the point these days where you can pretty much figure out how a character is going to end up in a film based on the actor playing the role, due to massive type casting. I saw "role models" on DVD a few weeks back, and it was a pretty good example of two actors totally type cast with an utterly predictable outcome.
I don't thing Hangover was "the perfect movie" or anything like that. There definitely were a-typical "bromance road trip" moments. But that was only 5% of the movie at best. And again if it wasn't already spoiled for you by trailers, it was pretty damned unpredictable and funny. Certainly better than any similarly themed movie in the last 10 years (of which there are plenty).
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I just watched Once Upon A Time In China III. Not as good as the first, but much better than the II in my opinion. For one, while it's goofy, it's not so openly goofy as II was. The addition of the character Clubfoot was also good, his wire work was very impressive to me. Plus, it finally moved the Wong Fei Hung/Aunt 13 relationship forward, which is about damn time. I got annoyed with watching Rosamund Kwan's character constantly rejected, if only because I like her character, and I think she's freaking gorgeous.

How could anyone say no to that face?

Dead Snow - not as good as I expected. But I imagine itll be better with a group of people. The premise is solid, the Evil Dead jokes/amages were great, and the smart zombies were great, it just kinda fell flat.
Again watching it with a group of people will probably make it better, like Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter or Prince of Space.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
That's about how I felt. The first and last 20 minutes were pretty crap, and while I had some good laughs inside of that, the structure was kind of unbalanced. The movie seemed haphazardly thrown together.dsheinem wrote:I don't get the love for The Hangover - it struck me as a mediocre bromantic comedy which lacked any genuinely funny moments that had me LOLing in the theater.
