Ha, I think the brown generation is going to age so badly it's not funny. Hell, Fallout 3 looks crappy now, imagine 5 years from now

I agree with you there, all of the Virtua games looked horrendous when they first appeared, but by the time titles like Mario 64 or Resident Evil were out, 3D looked good. Heck, I remember playing Resident Evil 2, thinking about how amazingly realistic it looked.jfrost wrote:Virtua Racing was quite innovative, but I still thought it looked like shit when compared with the smooth 2D graphics I had on other games. I don't recall anyone saying that the game looked amazing, just that it was a big step forward. Might be wrong, though.

Don't forget the mandatory bloom light shader effect in EVERY game at the moment. I personally felt that looked dated when I first saw it. Many years later I still cringe at the effect. Ask any pro photographer or cinematographer what they think of the effect for a laugh. Expect words like "overexposed" and "amateur" as the nicest of the comments.ZeroAX wrote:I wonder how the future will see the current gray/brown generation.
Combine with the grey/brown comment above. Yes, I wonder how it will all be looked back on in 10-20 years.

Oh, and when are they going to stop putting in lens flare on first person games? How many times have you looked up around the sun and had a lens flare on your cornea?

Vagrant Story still looks damn good.

Why can't they make CRTs any more
I am sure there is a market for it, its the best TV possible.
I can bet my life if one company supplied the world with CRTs it will be profitable for sure

I don't know about the US, but here in Australia there's still a lot of CRTs for sale. Heaps of them are coming out of China and Malaysia. No real "name brands" any more, but plenty of cheap units.
Ditto for arcade machines with RGB CRTs. Still heaps of them around for sale.

Yes, I just played JGR yesterday, and I was thinking the graphics look nice even now because of their style.IcKy99 wrote:i agree. if the game is going for a stylized look it will probably age better than its "realistic" brothers. i think cel shaded games like Jet Grind Radio look great till this very day. Rez and Cosmic smash also look stunning still, its because there simple
