What was the last movie you've seen?

I just watched The Day After, a made-for-TV film aired in 1983 about what might happen if the policy of mutually assured destruction ever came to fruition. Yep, it's a nuclear disaster movie. I have to praise the film a bit, for its special effects were amazing for a made-for-TV film, and the director fought long and hard to keep it as graphic as possible, though some material was cut. The film was originally meant to be 4 and a half hours long, but was cut down to a run time of about two hours. As far as acting, there were actually some decent folks in the film, and the dialogue was sometimes hit-or-miss, but all in all it made for an exceedingly well done production.

So I suppose I should point out how anti-nuke the film is, because...oh fuck it, come on, how could it not be? The film was also released internationally in the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, and Cuba, with great success apparently(and I think North Korea needs a theatrical re-release, but they'd probably find it a lovely popcorn movie where the "Evil Americans" all die). It did lead to some rethinking of nuclear strategy, and ultimately we made it through the Cold War with no nuclear apocalypse, so...cool, I guess. That's not to say it wasn't criticized, alternatively claiming it sensationalized nuclear war or was too tame. Some critics wrote it off as left-wing propaganda(and watching it, I can see what they meant in certain scenes). There were several right-wing responses, included the TV mini-series Amerika(granted it also had criticisms for being right-wing paranoia or for underplaying Soviet brutality).

One of these would turn out to potentially be one of the greatest movies of the decade, if not all time. Only one film could ever be this stupidly amazing, consisting of equal parts patriotism and attitude, and taken to the max. The EXTREME max.

Slumdog Millionaire was the last movie I have seen. I liked it, but it's a bit overrated. People really go nuts when someone makes something a little artsy and sentimental. I did enjoy it though, just wasn't as amazed by it as most movie critics were, but it certainly has charm.

My girlfriend made me watch "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" and "House Bunny" since they were on cable.

As a huge Boyle fan, as in I have a gigantic trainspotting poster sitting right next to me right now... I think I might agree. I like Slumdog alot and I thought it was a pretty awesome movie, but i think it was far from his best. If you ask me, one movie that really didn't get the credit it deserved that oscar season was The Wrestler. If you ask me, that deserved a LOT more recognition than it ever got.

Last House on the Left (original) - 9/10, but what's with the scenes with the two cops? That kinda lightens the mood and negates the tension a bit.

I tried to get my little brother to watch it (he's 16), but he didn't want to. Basically, if I suggest a movie to him, he won't watch it, except when I bought him a copy of Shottas.

Tried to watch The Thing, but it starts off too dull to get into. I mean, how long does one have to wait until something cool happens?

Also got The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from Netflix (same place where I got LHotL). Gotta watch that one.

Didnt that movie had Mahone from the Police Academy? I think ive caught the end of the movie, and it had this old guy telling these people to get out of his house, even though its complete rubble.

I just got done watching the new Transformers movie... its, Awesome!!!!

Heres my movie watching this weekend so far:
Friday: Transporter 3
Saturday: Highlander 2
Sunday: Transfromers 2.

Now, ive got work in 10 hours, night...

Wow, man. Trust me. Watch The Thing. Watch it alone. No interuptions. No distractions. That's one of the most tense films I have ever sat thru. It's amazing.
