The Quest to discover the E.T. Landfill
As everyone knows, E.T. did not sell very well, or at all for the matter.
As time passed, carts stayed on shelves, and there was only one thing to do.
Relocate as many carts as possible to a landfill somewhere in the desert of New Mexico.
Now, Can anyone confirm where this landfill is located? Or if it even exists? Or will I have to scour every last inch of the state myself?
Motivations for discovering such trash include: Boredom, with a dash of curiosity.
Any insight guys?

Actually, it did sell well. It also got returned in droves. It stopped selling once everyone realized how bad the game was. Yes, it was tossed into a landfill, but it didn't stay there. Too many folks came along and started digging it up, so Atari had the place bulldozed and turned into asphalt. In other words, you're looking for a parking lot, buddy.

Maybe I'll just obtain a copy of E.T., and blow it up in that parking lot or something.

I would give you mine, but I figured I might as well keep it in case someone who I hate/dislike happens to come by and is like "oh, you have Atari 2600 games? Mind if I try one?" "Sure! Try E.T., it's friggin' awesome! Takes about 5 hours to beat, have fun!"
Intellivision, Atari 2600, Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Sega Master System, Genesis, 32x, CD, Saturn, DC, PSOne, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, GB, Game Gear, Sega Nomad, Virtual Boy, GBA, DS, PSP.

Scan the parking lots. You might find one sticking out of the ground...Ack wrote:Actually, it did sell well. It also got returned in droves. Re: The Quest to discover the E.T. Landfill
I thought about doing this last year, and then gas jumped to $5 a gallon here...
Some friends were going to do it, even got on Kotaku:
http://kotaku.com/357411/filmakers-to-p ... ocumentary
But it has been an idea of mine for some time.
It has been researched at length by this fella:

However from talking to a local, the current dump is not the same dump they buried ET in. The old one would be here:
US Highway 54, New Mexico

Re: The Quest to discover the E.T. Landfill
The old rumor was that the landfills were topped with concrete after the dump, to thwart scavengers..
Another rumor was that it had tons of eprom waste as well. Happy hunting.
