I remember the first time I played "Way of the Warrior" for the 3DO and I kept thinking "God this game looks awesome......Controls suck, But God this game looks awesome!", Well I dusted it off this morning and it still looks awesome!....Controls still suck, But it still looks awesome .
Another old game from 1983 that still looks great (for it's age) is "I-Robot" from the arcade. This was the first game to use filled polygons and allow zooming and perspective tweaking through the buttons, Really an innovator!
On topic though, Alone in the dark use to look great but now not so much
....a great game will always be a great game. vagrent story when i see it now looks pretty damn primitive but its still got music, a bad ass story, lots of fun fighting find stuffs make weopon kind of thing and still demands my interest. shes a needy mistress full of spunk.... for her age.

The actual graphics of Panzer Dragoon may not be as good, but I just love the graphic design of it, and the other games. It's all very unique and cool to look at.
Was just thinking Panzer Dragoon has always been one of those games where you could show the system off. I remember using it to show my Saturn off to Playstation owners that thought the Sega Saturn couldn't do 3d.
Thinking about it even the latest iteration of the franchise Panzer Dragoon Orta is a looker on the Xbox

IMHO, Vagrant Story has better art direction and environments than almost every other PSX game. It was incredibly drab, but that was atmospheric and worked to the advantage of the creepy ambiance. Just go into first person view and look around the rooms and you'll see how "complete" everything looks. Its not half finished looking like Tomb Raider and pretty much any N64 title. If only it had a better inventory system...

oh come on man... be nice to the n64. its like picking on the poor little retarded train that tried.
it had some pretty damn finised looking games.. turok 1 and 2, starfox, goldeneye, castlevania, trouble makers (shake shake), zero g 2, sin and punishment, zelda, paper mario, and doom 64.
mario games always look half finised... you know.. un the floating blocks and stuff.some bad voodoo there.

Um, seriously dude, no PSX looks better than the best looking N64 games, like DOOM64 (for a 2d/3d hybrid) or Conkers Bad Fur Day (awesome 3D). And honestly, while the textures on N64 are all smoothed over, I now appreciate quite a few of those instances over the horribly jaggy textures used on PSX or SS games.
Time can definately change our perception. When DVD first came out I saw it as a huge advance over VHS and Laserdisc. Now that I'd seen an HD picture, DVD still looks better than VHS, but I think many of my laserdiscs actually blow away DVD and its square shaped artifacts.

Hey now. I love the original Turok, but mostly because it felt like I was playing an unfinished dev build. Those cheats were amazing! Unfortunately there was no cheat to turn off the infernal fog. (Not even Superman could destroy the Nintendo fog machines.) IMHO, Shadows of the Empire even with bad controls felt a lot more polished than Turok. The n64 came out with only several great looking games, but the PSX had MANY games with superior art and environment detail, even if the engine was never as good as n64. The '64 had so much wasted potential, thats why I have such a grudge... Then the gift of Dreamcast was bestowed unto man and lifted him out of the shadow of the 32/64-bit era.
edit: (Turok 2 was f'ing amazing and the first level is pure win)
