What games have inspired true adventure in your mind?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What games have inspired true adventure in your mind?

Post by UBERTRON777 »

I'm feeling like I want some wonder here. Some great adventure full of discovery that fills my hunger for genuine curiosity. I need a game with an atmosphere. I need a game that has the decency to invoke that same childlike wonder. As close as I can get to now is the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, Ico, Shadow of Colossus, and Pikmin. Have any suggestions?

The first Tomb Raider game really did it for me. It just felt so open to exploration even though it was really linear in retrospect. One of the few games like that when it was first released.

some people might not like it, but i think Zelda: Twilight Princess was really good at bringing that "worldy" atmosphere, i actually enjoyed riding my horse across the huge plains in hyrule, to me thats adventure.

Immersion is a big thing for me. Link to the Past, Snatcher, and Mother 3.

Sadly, (or strangely?) I've been more deeply involved with these games than I have with some of my friends or family.

I think Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker did it for me. The world was so huge(pauz) and I loved sailing from one end to the other. The world felt massive and it just felt like I was on an epic adventure even more so then Ocarina and Twilight(which I did'nt like as much as the last 2 and LttP.

Honestly, Morrowind does it to me. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. does it as well, but it's mixed with a fear of what freakish thing may be just over the horizon.

Morrowind and DQVIII both really gave me that feeling.

Well, my suggestion doesn't seem to match the examples you listed, but it does seem to match what you are looking for (at least it did/does for me).

Not sure if you are in to point and click adventure games, but the original Myst game (as well as the others in the series) should provide what you are looking for.

If Myst just isn't your thing or you are looking for more action, I echo the Morrowind recommendation (one of my favorite games of all time).

the original fable, going anywhere was so easy with teleporting.... if only i could do that in real life, haha. The whole environment felt comfortable, being able to get drunk as piss, marry any woman you came across, all that good stuff. plus, being able to either wield a blade, or magic powers, or a little of both, be evil, good, in the middle, i just loved that game.

Super Metroid.

Sitting in my basement with the lights off playing that game is like nothing else in the world. Once you start playing it you can't finish it till the end.

for close second is Ocarina of Time.
