I'll be honest, I haven't seen a system seller for any current gen console as of yet. Most of the gameplay elements of last gen have been recycled on my current hardware with minimal updating.the7k wrote:Personally, rather than buying the Wii a second time (Which I think would be the ultimate form of flip-flopping), I'd rather build a computer that can handle Wii emulation. After all, the only game I really want on the Wii at this point is TvC. I'd get Smash Bros again, as well as Punch Out and Klonoa, but they aren't system sellers for me.

I feel the exact same way. The lack of creativity across the entire industry is shocking, sad really. Even while discussing my recent favorites with people, I realize the newer games I tend to enjoy are essentially PS1 and N64 games with nicer graphics. I almost give up. Nothing will ever top the epic days of the SNES.corn619 wrote: I'll be honest, I haven't seen a system seller for any current gen console as of yet. Lets see... Personally, I can really recommend these Wii games:
-Super Smash Bros. Brawl
-Super Paper Mario
-Wario Land: Shake It
-Geometry Wars: Galaxies
Also, Muramasa: The Demon Blade when it comes out in September.

I haven't had trouble finding creative games. In fact, I'd say this gen has some of the most unique games I've seen in a long time - they just usually aren't physical products.corn619 wrote: I'll be honest, I haven't seen a system seller for any current gen console as of yet. Flower, Echochrome, PixelJunk Eden, Noby Noby Boy, LittleBigPlanet, World of Goo, Audiosurf, Portal, Braid... there are a lot of gems out there, you just gotta look to the tubes instead of the brick and mortars. After all, Indie Developers and Smaller Studios are the only ones that are allowed to take chances these days.

There are some great games out theres no question about it. Its just that I haven't seen a game that I MUST experience yet at any cost.the7k wrote:I haven't had trouble finding creative games. I do not think 80% of this generation is shovelware
Only the Wii
Cause the Wii is like the only console where you have the good games and the bad games
See the list of games and most people mentioned exactly the same games
On other consoles there are a difference in taste, I might recommend gears of war when I didn't like Street Fighter 4 . Another might say buy LittleBigPlanet and Valkyrie , but not eternal sonata neither Drake's Fortune.
Ask Wii owner and this is almost the exact same list every one would give:
NMH , Zak&Wiki , All nintendo franchises , WarioWare, Okami, RE4, Boom Blox, Excite Trucks/Bots...You get the idea.
As for system sellers this generation has a ton of great games and the 360 can take on a lot of older consoles that are considered great. But you have to give them a break , every generation was technological jump except this one:
Atari-Simple blocks of graphics
NES-Actually games as we know them, characters and stages can be identified
SNES-super colors and full graphic games even with some 3D elements, probably greatest videogames era due to quality games and innovation.
psx/n64-The jump to 3D games, mature games like RE, Silent Hell, MGS, 3D fighters, multiplayer gaming(007, kart).
Xbox/gamecube-3D done right, FPS comes to consoles, online gaming, console more than play games like having a hard drive, play DVDs etc.
This generation has no technological jump other than HD graphics. Seriously everything we dreamed of is here and now there is nothing to add. Playing Mario in 3D, playing online , perfect graphics, large levels, cinematic experience...it is all here. So there is no game that is going to incorporate a new technology that is going to make this generation a system seller, because that is why people usually wait for a game, it is going to incorporate a new technology.
If I must say, one game that is a system seller it has to be GTA 4. Reason is the graphical jump is like from NES to PSX or even PS2. From box like cars to full models?! That is a real jump.
I have to add, motion controls could be the thing added with this generation but it failed miserably . No one really using it on the Wii, regular controller consoles is selling really well 0 complaints , and I hear a lot of people complain after some time using motion controls that it gets boring and repetitive .

How is this abnormal? Those are some of the best games on Wii. I'd recommend Gears, Resistance, LBP, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Uncharted, Halo and every other game that I generally considered decent to anyone who was asking about the other two consoles.

Re: Planning On Getting A Wii - What Game Should I Get?
I would recommend the following as must haves
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Not only a really good fighter but also it's battle system makes it a great party title.
Wario Ware Smooth Moves: One of the best party titles out there
Trauma Center: New Blood : A well made game where you are a doctor and fight incredible diseases. Has a cooperative mode which makes for very interesting games and really tests your skills. It uses the wiimote but the controls are good.
Really good games depending on your tastes:
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (And FE : Path of Radiance): Really good strategy RPG titles.
House of the Dead Series, Ghost Squad & Resident Evil 4: Good arcade shooters. However they are ARCADE shooters and are pretty short. Consider if they are worth your money.
Zack & Wiki: Cool puzzle game. Good albeit short. You may want to consider if it's worth the money.
I haven't played a lot of Wii games (Busy with exams and such) but those are cool games and very worth playing.

Re: Planning On Getting A Wii - What Game Should I Get?
I've heard this every generation. SNES, PSX, PS2 - they all had their nay-sayers, telling everyone that nothing new was being brought to the table.kingmohd84 wrote: This generation has no technological jump other than HD graphics. Technology is always improving. Aside from HD, the storage space on discs these days are incredible. Hell, some of the newest Blu-Rays can hold more data than my main computer.
Of course, technology means nothing. A good game will be a good game, regardless of what tech is uses. I'd argue that there are plenty of games out there that are worth owning, they just may not appeal to your specific tastes. Even though the Wii disappointed me, I know that was because of my personal tastes. They didn't lack good games, they just lacked games I was interested in.
If there are no new games out there that appeal to you at all ... I think it's just a personal problem on your end. Perhaps you want an excuse not to spend money on a new console, and the reason of wanting to save your money isn't good enough for you, so you try to convince yourself this generation is a shit-pile. It's the feeling I often get from those that complain about this generation - they just don't want to invest in it, regardless of how much fun they may have, so they just convince themselves they can't have fun with it.

Re: Planning On Getting A Wii - What Game Should I Get?
Nothing in this generation really interested me until I actually started looking at what I was interested in. I wanted to buy an Xbox 360. I had heard of all the big titles, the great online multiplayer and I have lots of friends with a 360, but as others have mentioned there just wasn't a system seller for me. The announcement of the Klonoa PSX port got me to start looking at the Wii more. I have the PSX version, but I enjoy platformers and I haven't heard about a lot from this generation. I knew I'd be happy with a Wii if I got Klonoa and Super Mario Galaxy (actually don't have it yet) and while browsing craigslist I saw a good deal and jumped on it. It was a bit of an impulse, but I had put some thought into it and had already decided I was going to buy one, I just didn't know when.
The games I have are:
Klonoa
Super Smash Bros Brawl (came with the Wii)
House of the Dead 2 &3 (came with the Wii)
Ultimate Shooting Collection
Donkey Kong Junglebeat (New Play Control - Gift from a friend, but should be fun - haven't played it yet)
Planning on getting mario galaxy, and while there are others I still have backlog to consider first.
