Should I Get A Homebrew Console?

Post by lisalover1 »

I've been kind of apprehensive about the purchase of a homebrew console lately. I was thinking about getting a GP2X Wiz or a Pandora, but I already have a hacked PSP, so I don't know if it's worth it or not. What's your opinion? Is it worth the upgrade for the homebrew? Or should I wait for the next-gen handhelds?

well if you do get one I've heard great things about hte GP2X from owners and its been around awhile. Personally though a hacked psp seems good enough

The GP2X isn't an upgrade from the PSP really, and the Pandora hasn't come out yet so support for it will be pretty poor for a couple of month after it is released. You would be better with the PSP until the Pandora is a proven entity. Don't really know anything about the Wiz, but it doesn't look all that powerful. Seems they went for portability over absolute power.

So you don't think it's worth the purchase? The Wiz sounds pretty cool, and I need to decide yes or no on buying a new console within the next few days [It's difficult to explain], so I'm still thinking it over. It's a shame the Pandora isn't out yet; I would have picked that up right away.

There has been a lot of development in the scene for the Dingoo A320. I have had one for quite some time and I enjoy it. It isn't as powerful as a psp for sure..but it is much more portable and it supports many more video codecs. Linux is also being ported to it and it will have great possibilities after that. Best of all it is cheap compared to the other devices you are talking about.

Here is a good place to check out some info on it.

Well, price isn't an issue for me, and my main goal for getting a homebrew console is to get a handheld that does more than my PSP. I think I'll just hold out for a Pandora.

Yeah, Pandora seems like the only real option if you want more out of it than a PSP.

The PSP will do you fine, there's little it can't do as far as homebrew and emulators are concerned that the GP32x can do better. Overall I think the PSP is a little better supported in my opinion emulators get frequent updates and there are way more commercial games available for it.

Stick with the PSP, if you already have one that can do homebrew then you already know its strengths!
