Painting my Dreamcast Amateurly
Re: Painting my Dreamcast Amateurly
well first off, Welcome to Racketboy! While your paintjob is by far the best one that we've had posted in the past week it does look rushed and that is never good. I think it really comes down to what kind of paint you use though tbh. I find that useing either krylon fusion or, preferably, the spray paints that you find at auto parts stores that are designed specifically for vynal and plastic works the best. As long as you take your time somewhat and let the coats dry before re-applying it will end up looking pretty professional.

It was looking good when it was all red, but now it looks like poop mud on the top. That chip in the paint looks like you started handling the console before the paint was fully dried. The other downside is that you sprayed over the logos, but too late to do anything about that now.
What I would do... Go out and get some krylon fusion, lightly sand the paint off, and respray that thing.

Why do people not like the standard white dreamcast? I think its one of the best looking consoles. the black even more so (right up there with the black gamecube and fat ps2 imo). I mean I can see if you have the sega sports one and want to remove that ugly logo, but otherwise, its fine! And my advice to you is to respray it with black on everything but the lid and controllers, i think that would be cool... It looked nice when you had it just red but the green you put on it just isnt good.

The top of my Dreamcast is starting to yellow.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Why do people not like the standard white dreamcast?

The Fat PS2 looks like an ass. It looked dated back in 2000...

As a rule of paints (or any unfamiliar medium), always test the material on something else first- good blending takes practice
I'm thinking about painting my dreamcast, but not covering it with opposing colors because the plastic looks a bit "used"- I may just freshen up the white base and then add the red swirls which I could easily make the pattern into a stencil

I have. I've taken in quite a few strays! A dear friend of mine gave me his sports edition CIB for 50 bucks back when everything hit the fan with Sega.chipperkwah wrote: I think someone needs to set up a Battered Dreamcast Shelter that can take in any dreamcast that hasn't had a good home life.

Sorry, it just doesn't look too good. I do agree that the remote is nice though

Here's something that just occured to me. I wonder if the paints they use for model cars and airplanes might work well for painting a system. Maybe pick up a cheap broken system off of ebay to test it out.

Popo, if you are talking about paint like Testors, then yes, yes they will. I would suggest staying away from the bottom of the barrel - the aptly named "Paint" brand you can buy, and using Apple Barrel or Folk Art as your low end. Testors, Villeago, and Games Workshop as your midgrade, and Billagieo and those other ones I will butcher trying to pronounce as your top end - mainly since those are sold in pigment only form and cost an arm and a leg. Stupid Z scale modelist.
But if you are just doing a new colour, spraypaint/airbrush is always going to be your best bet. Hmm, maybe I should look into painting consoles...Cant be much more different than glass, pewter, or canvas.
