Gaming-safe snacks

Post by marurun »

Nothing ruins a controller faster than Cheetos powder and chip grease. What are your favorite less or non-messy gaming snacks?

For me it's grapes, fresh or frozen. Bell pepper strips also count. They're not totally mess-free, but keep a paper towel handy for juice spills and you're good to go. Also, those slim pretzel sticks are great. Bonus points if you have some kind of dip to dunk them in. None of those snacks require being held in a hand for more time than getting the food from the vessel to your mouth, so minimal gaming interruption is in order.

What do other people prefer? If you are a fan of celery I question your life choices.

I'm already questioning your life choices with the bell pepper slices.

I go for upgraded grapes; first you dry them in the sun, then you dunk them in chocolate.

I never feel like eating while playing games, hmm...
But I like the idea of freezing fruit!

I could have sworn we had this thread already, but it maybe it was just a topic of conversation in person.

Especially if you add cream cheese, celery makes a great gaming snack. Not sure why there is so much vegetable hate. A veggie platter with hummus or blue cheese dressing is perfect for gaming. You could add olives or cheeses with a toothpick or small fruit fork as well.

Celery is gross, that's what's wrong with it.

Not green. Red, yellow, or orange, so they're mild and sweet.

If you're interested in giving frozen grapes a try, before freezing wash them, let them dry again, and take them off the stems. Take a metal baking sheet of a size that will fit in your freezer and spread the grapes out on a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper. Once they are frozen you can toss them into a freezer storage bag and they'll remain separate and not frozen into clumps.

I like those bags of whole raw almonds. No mess or coating to wipe off.

Modern sweet almonds are pretty safe, but they do still have a little amygdalin in them so make sure not to absent-mindedly down a whole bag. (I'm not suggesting anyone on here is an inattentive snacker besides myself, for the record.)

Incidentally, the grocery near had celery at 6 dollars a bag. I was planning on making egg salad sandwiches for breakfast, but I think I'll pass on the celery this time.

Great idea for a thread! Some of my favorite snacks while gaming are:

Blueberry Belvita, which is basically a breakfast bar. Easy to eat and no grease or mess. Granola bars work well too.

Cheez-Its crackers, they're not greasy, but I do prefer to take a break to eat them away from the controller and wash my hands afterwards.

Popo alluded to chocolate raisins, and that's another favorite of mine. I like the Kirkland Signature chocolate raisins from Costco, so good!

Beverage wise, other than water I like to have ginger ale or hot caffeine free tea in the cooler months. My partner's allergic to grapes, so I haven't been buying them too often, but I should get some for gaming, that's a good idea. Pretzels sound good too, haven't kept those around the house in a while.
