We don't seem to have one. I'll recommend two great ones that are fairly modern. Spy x Family and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End:

and of course for classic stuff you've probably all heard of Cowboy Bebop

I think I saw a remake of Bubblegum Crisis. Tokyo 2040 or something like that. I guess I should check out the original

Right now I'm in the midst of watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, which is why I mentioned it in the OP, and it's honestly in contention with Cowboy Bebop for my personal favorite anime of all time based on what I've seen so far. It has exceeded my expectations and is the type of anime I think I could recommend to anyone, unless you have an aversion to D&D style fantasy settings. I'm about 14 episodes into its first season (the only season available so far) and it just feels like a masterpiece.

I also recently started watching Thunderbolt Fantasy. I don't know if it technically counts as anime, but I have seen the show mentioned in anime circles. It's a really fascinating show. It's a joint Taiwanese-Japanese show that feels like anime, but it's all done with puppets. Definitely something a little different from Jim Henson type stuff. I'm genuinely stunned by how gorgeous this show looks a lot of the time. It's almost like watching really good video game cutscenes, but with puppets.

2040 is VERY 90s, and the original Crisis is VERY 80s. 2040 is definitely more linear around the central storyline, whereas the original Crisis is a bit more edgy and resembles a lot of science fiction stories from the 80s. Crisis owes a lot to the cyberpunk movement and 2040 is more mainstreamed.

I had a DVD box set of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 back in the early 2000s, but it didn't click with me at the time. I'd like to give it another chance. In general, do fans tend to favor the original or the 2040 release?

Another anime I've been thinking about recently is Venus Wars, I really would like to rewatch it. I originally saw it on the Saturday morning anime block on the Sci-Fi Channel and loved it. I have a DVD somewhere as well, but I gotta check if it's easily available online anywhere to watch.

I literally just today realised that Code Geass is a CLAMP joint. I didn't watch much of it, I just kind of can't believe it because it doesn't seem like their style.

I don't mean to say that it matters if there's more than one or anything, but there actually is an old anime thread:

o.pwuaioc found it on a rager last year. :D
That post is basically all I've got on anime these days. Just waiting around for the next Hathaway film to get announced, someday--. I really need to finish reading the novels, though.

I just witnessed something hilarious in Spy x Family that seems like the kind of joke that only applies to English speaking people watching the show. I'm not revealing any important story details here, but I'll spoiler text this anyway in case any one who plans on watching this show doesn't want the joke itself spoiled
I was watching episode 10 in Japanese with English subtitles. At one point during the episode something actually knocks the subtitles off of the screen
