Ecco the Dolphin Genesis Remasters and New Game Incoming!

Post by Key-Glyph »

Friends, if you haven't heard, Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time are getting remasters next year, and a third new game is being developed by the series creator Ed Annunziata and -- and these are his words -- "the entire original team."

I am, as you might expect, pretty excited.

I'll be so thrilled if this new game turns out to be the third installment the series originally planned for but never got. Tides of Time ends on a cliffhanger that absolutely devastated me as a child and has haunted me since. Will I finally have closure? Can dreams like this really come true?

See you in 2026, folks.

(Oh gosh they've even added a MIDI-ish autoplay of the original opening theme to the countdown page now, MY HEART)

Hello Quag Boi! You are correct that Defender of the Future is not (so far as we know) getting a remaster next year, but the Dreamcast game was also not created with Ed Annunziata's input, so I'm not sure if he would be involved with a remake of that one regardless.

I keep realizing more things to get excited about. For example, there were entire sequences that were cut from the first game due to space constraints on the cart. Those constraints will not exist now. So will the remakes add in those things that never were? Will we be getting the Ecco games built out into what they had been intended to be, now that there is the time and technology to revisit the vision?

I'm wondering too if things that were confusing about Tides of Time will be better explained. I'm just so interested in the approach they're going to take with all this.

And gimmie that Ecco merch, please!
