That one is a little strong on the the coffee flavors for me but still pretty good. Stouts and porters are my favorite type of beer so here are a few that I recommend.

Dragon's Milk https://dragonsmilk.com/beer/dragons-milk/
Stillwater Business https://stillwater-artisanal.com/us/product/business/
Shakespeare Stout https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/56973/
Piano Keys https://www.newbelgium.com/beer/piano-keys/
Ten Fidy https://oskarblues.com/beer/tenfidy/
Old Rasputin https://northcoastbrewing.com/beers/yea ... ial-stout/
Christmas Bomb https://prairieales.com/beer/christmas-bomb/
Even More Jesus - https://eviltwin.dk/Even-More-Jesus
Einstok Toasted Porter https://einstokbeer.com/our-brews/icela ... ed-porter/
Founder's Porter https://foundersbrewing.com/our-beer/porter/ (I like this better than their Breakfast Stout)

I'm not use to drinking this kind of beer. It was about $18 for a 4-pack. Which is a lot more than the $13 or so I paid for the 6-pack of Guiness. But I have to remember that this is a much more flavorful beer, and it's also 8.3% alcohol. It's not meant to be gulped down like a cheap beer. It's meant to be savored. So in essence, I'd have to think of it as an 8-pack. Meaning I could consider it as the same price per beer, if I take twice as long to drink it. Which I would think you would want to take twice as long to drink it, being that it packs more punch in the taste department.

That said, I'm just nearly finished with my first one and I think I like it. I'll wait until I finish the 4-pack before I form an opinion. But it definitely wasn't bad. But so far, my thoughts are that I don't think it would become a go-to beer for me but I could see myself getting it again.

I hope you like it enough to enjoy it, as I hate recommending anything someone doesn't like, but de gustibus and all that jazz, so no worries if you end up not really enjoying it. Like everything else we consume, what beer we enjoy is more personal. It's not like Founders Breakfast was my first, last, and everything, but just ended up being my go-to after years of searching out stouts.

That said, $18 is a shocker. Here in Boston it hovers between $10-11 for a four pack. That would make it much easier to buy and gulp down. I doubt I'd buy it as much if it were nearer $20.

I think we diverge in tastes! I prefer Breakfast to Founder's Porter, though the Porter is a great Porter. But stuff like Old Rasputin I lost interest in. There's some flavor there, perhaps what marurun is alluding to with his cough syrup remark, that I just can't get into anymore. It's like it's masking the alcohol? Hard to say for sure, and it's been many years since I've had one, but I really didn't like the last one I tried.

I do like that Einstok Toasted Porter, though! Great beer if you can get it for a good price. Sadly, they don't sell it up here, but I had many fond times grabbing it from corner drug stores in New York.

Speaking of beers I've not had in a long while, is Southern Tier's Mokah still any good? I used to get hammered on those down at Rattle and Hum, Midtown Manhattan. Fine beer selection if anyone ends up over that way. (I guess that's Note and maybe Ziggy if you get into the city? Definitely not you know who.)

I'll had to add a few of those recommendations to my list (Stillwater Business, Dragon's Milk - haven't had a decent bourbon stout in a while).

Separately from Stouts, I also mentioned to find a six pack of Golden Monkey up here. Gone now, and again out of grasp, it was better on tap anyway, but for $12 it was a steal.

$18 for a 4-pack isn't an unheard of price around here. Depends on the beer, of course. And I'm sure the price will vary place to place, because Long Island is geographically weird. But I was fully expecting it to be $15-20 before I got rung up. The place I got it from might be on the higher side around here, but I doubt I can get it as low as $10-11 anywhere on Long Island.

I didn't dislike it, and like I said I'll have to have more than one before I can really form an opinion. But I didn't realize that it was going to be a flavored beer. I like coffee a lot, and coffee and chocolate is always a good combo. But I prefer a plain old beer. For example, I tried this Pumking beer on the recommendation that it tastes like pumpkin pie and it has a high alcohol content. It wasn't bad, but I prefer the Bluepoint Mother Pumpkin Ale because it tastes like a beer but with a slight hint of something else. Like, if you're not paying attention you just taste beer.

Some of these beers have such cool names though, and I'm a sucker for that. Dragon's Milk, jeez! That sounds fucking awesome. "What are you drinking?" - "Dragon's Milk!"

Man, if you are getting into the more "dessert" beers, I recommend Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout. It is wat heavier on the chocolate flavors, to the point I actually do drink it as a dessert: https://samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/shop/bottles/stout-bottles/organic-chocolate-stout/

Sam Smith's Oatmeal for a while was in every store. Low ABV for the price (Chocolate Stout, too), so I haven't bought it in a while. I do remember enjoying it quite a bit, though. Maybe it's time to seek it out again.

It's October, so all of the pumpkin beers are out...

I don't like to ride the pumpkin band wagon. I mean, I get it, it's a nice festive kind of thing and pumpkin flavor can be OK here and there. But it seems like some people go absolutely nuts over pumpkin this and pumpkin that.

That said, I did stumble on a pumpkin beer that I actually do like quite a bit, and now I eagerly wait for October to enjoy it again (it helps that I love the October weather, so I'm waiting for that anyway).

Blue Point Mother Pumpkin Ale

Blue Point is actually a local Long Island brewery. What I like about the Mother Pumpkin Ale is that it still very much tastes like a beer, but with a hint of pumpkin. Some pumpkin flavored things are just overpowering with pumpkin, and I'm not a fan of that.

They just changed the label, it use to look like this...

I don't mind the new label, it's kinda cool in a Halloween theme kind of way. But I miss the old label. The new one will look odd after Halloween, because I don't mind drinking this beer into November.

I'll have to look out for that, haven't seen it around my area before, but I've had a few other beers from Blue Point and generally like their brews.

I'm also not a huge fan of pumpkin flavored stuff, but the one pumpkin beer I've grown to really like is Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale. I saw a few packs of it at the grocery store near me, but I already had a good amount of items, so I figured I'll come back in a few days to get it. Well, a few days later it was totally sold out. They went quick!

A lot of pumpkin ales are actually more pumpkin spice ales, and don't have any actual pumpkin in them, but rather a bunch of cinnamon and nutmeg. That's fine, I guess, I like some spiced ales. But I do actually like pumpkin flavor itself.

Related hint: don't leave the salt out of pumpkin pies and other sweet pumpkin treats. The pumpkin won't taste sweet. For some reason it needs that salt.

I've had a pumpkin ale before and it was the most unholy garbage I've ever tasted. Guess I'm not a pumpkin person.

There's also a lot of ill-thought pumpkin ales. One does not just dump a bunch of pumpkin into an ale.
