The Platinum Trophy / 1000GS Thread

Post by emwearz »

I thought it would be fun the chat about Platinum Trophies or 1000GS we have recently scored in games. I know they are not for everyone, but for me I find if I liked a game enough to finish it and the trophies are not online, I tend to try and go for them. What was the most recent game you got the Platinum or 1000GS for? Are you struggling to get that last trophy to get the Plat?

The last two I earned were;

Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue

This was a pretty easy Plat, but it really gave me some inspiration to play through an older PS1 title I had never played before, and it was a pretty decent little platform / action game. It is also one of those odd games where you can get the platinum trophy without even finishing all the objectives in every level.

This was such a surprise game to me. I competently loved it! I wasn't the biggest fan of the push box puzzles, but other than one or two I didn't really need to restart them and put much time into them. The final trophy to pop was finishing the games version of a rush mode without taking damage, I kept being able to finish every phase without taking a hit, but not all together. Turned it off, came back the next day and it popped without any effort.

It's always better when you love something competently rather than loving it half-assedly.

I picked up Super Lucky's Tale for my kid to enjoy and I don't think it has really supplanted Kirby or Smash Ultimate for him, sadly, but maybe someday I'll make a run at it and see what all the good words are about.

I also make it a point to go for all the achievements in games (that being the chosen term on Steam as opposed to trophies). As of right now, I have 125 games on Steam which are completed, though there are some which I did complete only for the devs to go back later and add more via continued development or expansions. Here's a link to my Steam profile:

https://steamcommunity.com/id/ack_attack

My most recent completions were Bloodhound, an FPS in the style of Painkiller, and Quake's remastered rerelease. Bloodhound I had actually completed before, but more achievements were added for finding secrets, so I replayed long enough to get them all. Quake required a lot more effort to get the ones I was missing, namely for beating the base game and all expansions on Nightmare, so I'm glad to have that under my belt.

Currently I'm working to get the final achievement in Picross Touch (requires I complete 2000 Picross games) and the last non-PvP achievement in 7 Days to Die. I have a few others I'm almost finished with as well that I may hop into for completion.

Always go full-ass.

Give it a try, it and A Hat in Time are by far the most enjoyable performers I have played recently.

See, I love that. When they give you a bit of drive to go back to a game, even if you have finished it before.

Steam Achievements are probably the ones I chase the least, just on a personal level, I don't know if it is because they are so exploitable, but they never held much value to me, I feel Valve should overhaul them in some way shape or form. Even Epic seems to have surpassed them with their implementation of achievements into the Epic Game Store. You have picked up some hardcore 100%'s though.

I don't go for completion because I would rather use the time to play other games.
But I often wonder, what am I missing?
Do you get more prestige for being a trophy hunter? Perhaps better insights into the medium?

Personally I most use it as motivation to get the most out of games that I already am really enjoying. I tend to play a game through and then if I am a few off (and I don't have to do another whole playthrough, but can chapter select) I will go about my day.

For retro re-relaeses I find them fantastic and for games that I have finished before and having another run at I really enjoy them!

They tend to have me push towards doing and collecting everything, like Mario 64, you only need 70 Stars (in a non glitched playthrough) to finish the game, but there are 120 stars in the game, that is a lot of content left on a the table. Some of the challenge style trohpies are great too, "beat this level with this config, etc".

It's all to taste and more importantly, they are games, they are meant to be fun. If it is not fun for you, ditch em. My 2c.
