Demonschool

Post by marurun »

Anyone else hotly anticipating Demonschool? I think this looks fascinating and should be a blast. It's trying for a sort of Saturn-esque look, combo 3D/2D visuals, and a rather Megaten/Persona vibe on some of movement-based, almost puzzle-style RPG combats.

Something to keep any eye on.

You mentioned puzzle-style RPG combat. It immediately reminded me of Disgaea. Some of the harder fights in the item worlds really required taking advantage of the gimmick of that specific game. You couldn’t survive the whole series with just brute force. You had to work with those “Geo Panels” by breaking these Geo Cubes in a certain order to do the most damage. You’d get to fill a bonus gauge where you’d get some useful items at the end of the fight. You have to throw each of the cube on a the color of another corresponding cube so that it’ll get destroyed when you knock out the corresponding color cube.

It’s a whole thing and I did a shitty job explaining it…

I'm curious about this one too and really like the art style. I'll have to watch a more detailed vid about the combat though, and see if it's something I think I'd click with.

Looks cool. Gives off strong SMT-vibes. I'm not much of a strategy/grid RPG person so I'll probably pass.

It looks like the Steam page has a demo for those interested.

The grid strategy is not what you think it is. Basically, your characters do their attacks/whatever as part of their move, and their moves can push allies or enemies in the process. And you can rewind, so you can see what a single move or a couple moves do, rewind, and then queue up everything so that all your characters move and combo in the right order. You don’t commit to your attack until you see what actually will happen. Sure, you don’t know what the enemies will do on their turn, but you know exactly what all your moves will do before you hit “go”
