No disrespect is intended! lol
I played a few different Saturn titles just to compare thinking "maybe this is an emulator thing". No, Radiant Silvergun definitely sounds muted to me. A lot of shooters I've played over the years have really strong intro music for the first stage to get you into it. Just wasn't there for RS. Next time I play it I'll see if there's an options menu to make sound adjustments.
NP! Only joking, of course. This is all honestly making me want to fire up a bunch of games on my Saturn, also. I do recall RS having sort of weak sound, but I don't really know if that's a false memory, or not.

The whole synth patch orchestra thing Sakimoto has going on for the RS soundtrack doesn’t really do it for me, either. His Souky tracks are much stronger, IMO.
Also, Racketboy, some of the text coding in the article is messed up. Might be worth fixing the apostrophes.
I definitely don't prefer the RS soundtrack out of his catalog, but it does still carry his signature style; So I do like it, personally. Even if the instruments don't sound all that great, some of the tracks for later stages of the game have a more dynamic/bombastic feel, and are nicely composed, I think.
Space Battle Ship 130 33KI being the main one I think of. It's kind of tough, because stages in Radiant Silvergun are so relatively long, I think the compositions are largely more subdued to attempt to stave off ear fatigue, kind of like Sugiyama Koichi's approach to composing for Dragon Quest.
Soukyugurentai's soundtrack is definitely more immediately catchy, though, and sounds a little more like his work on earlier stuff like the Ogre games, Verytex, Gauntlet IV, etc, in most places. Some of it kind of reminds me of the Panzer Dragoon Zwei soundtrack, too, which is always good.
