Titles of Interest Before XB 360 Market Closure

Post by Jagosaurus »

As many of you know, the Xbox 360 marketplace is closing down in late June '24. Should note, this does NOT impact existing purchases or anything moved over to the XB1/XB Series storefront (via BC). It also is not the MS 360 servers for online play or 360 specific achievements. Only new purchases will be restricted/shop sunset.

Below is a list of the 220 Arcade titles dropping off. Rez HD jumps out to me. I need to snag that.

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/new ... re-closes/

Worth noting there are other full releases that never saw a physical release on the platform. One that jumps out to me is Legend of Kay Anniversary. Yes, it's available elsewhere.

Several titles also later received an updated XB1 release such as CoD Black Ops III.

... also, go buy or claim any DLC you want for non-backwards compatible titles.

What are you going to grab before June 29th?

Edit/Add to list many titles for you to dig into:
- Batman Arkham Orgins Blackgate
- Gotham City Imposters
- Bionic Commando Rearmed
- Fez
- Dust: An Elysian Tale
- Crimson Alliance
- Legend of Kay
- Hell Yeah Wrath of the Dead Rabbit
- Bubble Bobble Neo
- Yars Revenge (remake)
- Backbreaker Vengeance
- Fusion Genesis
- Alien Breed (trilogy)
- Thunder Wolves
- Call of Duty Classic*
- Rez HD**

* This is a remaster of the original PC title. Not to be confused with CoD Finest Hour which was the original console title

** bundled inside of Qubed physical release but pricey now at $50+ for CIB vs $10 standalone in digital marketplace

Fighting fans should dig more into these:

- Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus
- Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection
- Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting
- Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
- Street Fighter III 3rd Stike
- Darkstalkers Resurrection

I'm honestly getting tired of digital marketplaces. Most of these will end up on pirate websites at some point anyway. So I don't plan on buying anything. I'm all physical these days and don't want to support "the all digital future"

I'm actually mostly physical (80%+) now too ... but with titles like Rez HD that never saw a physical release & interest me, I'm probably going to drop 10 bucks.

... or I'll at least make sure I dig into some DLC options for games I already own, both physical & digital.

To be fair ... if you bought something previously, you won't lose it. Just new purchases, for non-back compat 360 titles, are sunsetting.

Some some ppl on Reddit going and DLing all the free backgrounds and avatar related items. Fun idea I didn't think of.

I’ve got good news for you. Rez HD is included on Qubed for the Xbox 360; so, it if receive a physical release.

Bionic Commando ReArmed is the game you need to snag. It’s scandalous that game doesn’t have a physical release and remains unavailable on the Switch. Capcom desperately needs to release a Bionic Commando collection…

Nice! Had no idea Rez was included in Qubed.

Also, the Bionic Commando title caught my eye but I hadn't looked up any footage yet. Will check it out.

... wondering how much DLC will be gone and require a modded JTAG or RGH 360 post this summer. Has to be 100s of DLCs.

Thanks on both tips.

Added to OP to list 20+ games I think are worth looking at before the 360 shop closes.

Was really surprised to see 2 Batman titles! I never did experience Fez, but remember everyone ranting & raving about it. Alien Breed & Thunder Wolves look up my alley for short burst, mindless fun.

Go check out the updated OP spoiler tab & let me know if any titles standout and are worth grabbing, or others Im missing. No way I buy them all but will grab a handful before the close.

A few thoughts…

Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate has a physical release for the 3DS. It will likely differ from the 360 release in some ways, though. There’s also a physical version of Legend of Kay for the Wii U that is almost the same as the 360 version, for what it’s worth.

Fez and Dust, but particularly Fez, are both totally awesome games you should all play. I think both have physical versions in the Switch - not sure about Fez - but they’re really pricey.

Bubble Bobble Neo is NOT backwardly compatible, and I don’t know if it is available on PC. Accordingly, that one might REALLY be going away. I think there’s a Rainbow Islands game that might also be going away completely too, along with KoF: Sky Stage, a random KoF shmup. I downloaded everything I wanted from the 360 marketplace some time ago; so, I’ll have to see if there’s anything else out there going away completely.

OK…Here are some to consider:

Bubble Bobble Neo
Charlie Murder
Dishwasher
Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragon
KoF: Sky Stage
Qix++
Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure
Space Giraffe

I hope that helps!

Can't believe I forgot Space Giraffe as a big Jeff Minter fan! Definitely adding that to my must have list with Rex.

Yessir, Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate was on both 3DS & Vita IIRC. This was the time when several higher profile handheld games got console ports (Castlevania Mirror of Fate, RE Revelations also come to mind).

I'm looking at this 2 ways ...

1) What's disappearing from the XB ecosystem and will be nice to have on a HDMI ready system.
2) What's truly disappearing forever

Something to consider ... Sony ended up not really closing the PS3 and Vita stores after initially announcing it (in '21?) but you'd have to imagine that time is coming sooner than later. So if content is on PS3/Vita/360 digital only, probably worth grabbing now.

I'm just now about to start digging into DLC. That's a whole other can of worms. There will be considerable digital only DLC tied to physical games, locked to the 360 marketplace. Then you have to imagine any GOTY type later release physical editions with the DLC on disc will jump in price. The Marvel Ultimate Edition "Gold Edition" comes to mind already (delisted).
