What (and where) is Donkey Kong jr.?

Post by General Chaos »

Baby Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong as a baby.

I think Diddy Kong is Donkey Kong's nephew.

Am I to assume that Donkey Kong Jr. is Donkey Kong's son or daughter?

Also, what happened to DK Jr.? Did Nintendo scrap him as a minor mascot?

Donkey Kong from the arcades becomes Cranky Kong in DKC for SNES. Donkey Kong Jr. becomes Donkey Kong in DKC. Diddy is Donkey Kong's friend I believe.

^ That's what I read too. Cranky is suppose to be either Donkey's father or grandfather, Diddy has no relation.

I didn't know that, very interesting. I have Donkey Kong Jr for the 2600, I didn't know it had been released on that system. I remember playing it on another system, was that the NES or SNES? Also have bowling for the 2600, which my wife makes fun of me for playing since we have it on the Wii.

I played Donkey Kong Jr. on the NES, so it was probably that.

Nintendo oficially says that:

Cranky Kong is the ape from "Donkey Kong AC". He is the grandfather of Donkey Kong,

Donkey Kong is the ape from "Donkey Kong Jr"

Diddy Kong is Donkey Kong's nephew.

There have been severals retcons: One made the Donkey Kong AC ape Cranky Kong and the ape from Donkey Kong Jr. AC was made Donkey Kong. Originally Cranky Kong was DK father but this was later retconned and now Cranky is his grandfather.

If you have SSBB you can check it.

The ape reappeared the following year in the sequel Donkey Kong Junior, where Donkey Kong is taken captive and locked in a cage by the re-named Mario, while Donkey Kong Junior sets out to rescue him. Donkey Kong resumed his antagonistic role in Donkey Kong 3, this time the character Stanley The Bugman taking Mario's place as the protagonist. Stanley fights Donkey Kong's attempts to invade a greenhouse along with a horde of killer bees.
The character is reintroduced in Donkey Kong Country as the grandson of the original Donkey Kong[4], who appears in the game as an elderly ape named Cranky Kong.[5] A representative of Rare stated shortly after the release of Donkey Kong 64, however, that the current Donkey Kong was meant to be an adult version of Donkey Kong Junior[6] (indeed, Cranky's reference to Donkey as his "son" in the game (and associated materials) seems to indicate this to be the case[7][8]).

Diddy Kong (ディディーコング ,Didī Kongu?) is a fictional character in the Donkey Kong series of video games, first appearing in the 1994 game Donkey Kong Country. He lives on Donkey Kong Island in the Kongo Jungle, and is identified by his red hat, which has a Nintendo logo on it, and shirt. He is Donkey Kong's buddy and sidekick. He is described as the "nephew wannabe" of Donkey Kong in the Donkey Kong Country manual and occasionally as a chimpanzee, despite his tail.
During the development of Donkey Kong Country, Diddy was originally meant to be an updated version of Donkey Kong Jr. Not liking the radical changes Rare had made to Donkey Kong Jr., Nintendo told them that they could either use Donkey Kong Jr.'s original appearance for Donkey Kong Country or rename their new version of him

I don't care what Nintendo says. I still say DK Jr. is the good DK we know of today and the bad DK is Cranky Kong, he even talks about 80's arcade games in DKC and DK64

What I meant was, I'm ignoring what anybody says. Even if for some strange reason they totally change it, I'm still believing my theory
